Chicago Bears got caught with their pants down again

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Three straight losses.

That’s exactly what the Chicago Bears are dealing with after 11 weeks into the 2009 NFL football season.

After all the hype generated by the Chicago Bears with their acquisition of big shot quarterback Jay Cutler from Denver, especially after he led the Bears to that huge win over the defending champions Pittsburgh Steelers back in Week 2, Cutler is slowly losing the Windy City the way he lost Denver.

In case you’ve not been following Bears’ games lately, Jay Cutler is starting to have a knack for throwing interceptions in games. And mind you, Cutler makes a lot of ‘em, probably more than any quarterback in this league.

Last Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles devin_hesterwasn’t any different. After giving up FIVE FREAKING INTERCEPTIONS to the San Francisco 49ers the week before, Jay Cutler gave up another one to the Eagles secondary on Sunday Night Football as he finished with a rather miserable 63.2 QB rating en route to yet another frustrating loss.

But perhaps what’s even more frustrating for Bears fans last Sunday night was the way Cutler has been missing his receivers downfield.

The Philadelphia Eagles provided Jay Cutler with all kinds of opportunities to burn them with huge plays downfield, the problem is, Cutler just can’t seem to get the ball to his wide receivers all night long as he was either a couple of yards short or a couple of inches long.

Cutler was suppose to be the missing piece the Bears needed to…

Jay Cutler and the Bears visit the Falcons in the ATL

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

And in this face-off between two of the best young quarterbacks in the league, who’ll have the edge?

That’s right, Week 6 of the 2009 NFL football season continues in the ATL as the birds take on the Bears on Sunday Night Football. Both teams are on a roll with the Falcons bouncing back from their loss to the Patriots in a big way and the Bears winning three straight after starting the year with a loss to Green Bay.

Both the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears have an impressive 3-1 start after four games. And since both of ‘em are still playing catch-up to the Saints and the Vikes, both still undefeated at this point of the season, you can bet your ass that both the Falcons and the Bears want the win on Sunday night.

jay_cutlerFor the ATL, they have the fiery second year quarterback in Matt Ryan. He caught the league off guard last season as he led the birds to the kind of year nobody saw coming. You see, the Falcons were suppose to struggle in the post Michael Vick era but thanks to Ryan, he made sure nobody from the ATL will miss No.7.

The Atlanta Falcons rewarded Ryan this season for his exploits last year, getting him arguably the best tight end in the game today in Tony Gonzalez. After four games, Tony G had 19 receptions, 215 receiving yards and two touchdowns. And since the Chicago Bears, judging from…

The 2009 NFL Football Season Schedule is Here!

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Now you’ll know the exact dates to file sick days.

The anticipation for the 2009 NFL football season heats up with the regular season schedule now known to the public.

That’s right, we now know who’ll be playing who even before September gets here. And mind you, we already have some huge key matchups to look forward to on the very first week of the season, starting with one of the best rivalry in football with a face-off between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears.

Yep, the NFL season kicks off again on a Thursday night, reliving the rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. It will be the 178th meeting between the two franchises and while a lot of things has changed since their first dance, you can expect the new pieces that both Green Bay and Chicago added like Aaron Rodgers and Devin Hester respectively to keep the tradition going.

Tom BradyWeek 1 of the 2009 season will also have the defending Super Bowl champions, Pittsburgh Steelers, on primetime when they take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday Night Football to relive the oldest rivalry of the sport.

The Tennessee Titans beat the defending champions on their own yard at Heinz Field, 31-14 back in Week 15. The Titans also own the best regular season record of 2008 when they flirted with perfection so it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against the defending champs next season.

The opening week of the regular season will close out with…

Eeny Meeny Miny Mo, where’ll T.J. Houshmandzadeh go?

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSince there’s a scarcity of good wide receivers available in the free agency pool, every team will probably gun for T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

And since T.J. Houshmandzadeh is really the only big impact wideout available from free agency, teams probably won’t mind spending a few bucks more than they usually do in putting the quite lengthy Houshmandzadeh name on their own jersey for the coming 2009-10 NFL football season. Good thing Ben Roethlisberger isn’t available, YET.

So where will T.J. Houshmandzadeh go? Will he stay in Cincinnati or will he finally move on after all those losing seasons he had playing for the state of Ohio? (Yes, he probably won’t even bother signing up for the Cleveland Browns…)

T.J. HoushmandzadehAs of this writing, Houshmandzadeh already resigned himself to another season with the Cincinnati Bengals. Normally, a player with a definite decision would mean that it won’t be anything indefinite but since we live in an era where Brett Favre can retire, play again, retire, play again and (you guessed it…) retire again, we should now know better.

But for the meantime, we’ll buy in with what Houshmandzadeh has already said. And if he does stay away from the Queen City, which of the league’s other 31 teams will he play for next? Let’s start with probably the most intriguing one, the New York Giants. Now that the Giants are…

2007-08 NFL Football Week 13 Gambling Guide

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

NOTE: Because of the utter incompetence from some of the people who maintain our servers, our site went down for FOUR FUCKING DAYS. Now that we’re back, here’s some of the stuff you missed and hopefully, we won’t go through that episode again.

It’s Week 13 of the 2007-08 NFL football season folks and although the Miami Dolphins haven’t won anything whatsoever yet, No.13 could be a lucky number for them as they welcome the struggling New York Jets on Sunday. Yes folks, this could be the game Miami finally wins one. He he…

Why? Well, for one, the New York Jets are trying to catch up to Miami for that overall No.1 draft pick in the lottery. Yes, sad to say, but that’s the only thing these guys can play for at tis point of the season. The Jets, at 2-9, are ”tied,” if you will, with the St. Louis Rams as the second worst team in the NFL.

The worst team is of course, the 0-11 Miami Dolphins. Amazing huh? In a season when a New England Patriots team is trying to become only the second team since Miami’s 1972 Dolphins finish a season undefeated, the 2007-08 Dolphins are trying to finish, winless.

Who wins? Well, if the Miami Dolphins team that we will see this…

Can Devin Hester carry the Bears over a Giant test?

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

seth-edward-oneal.jpgStay alive. That’s what the Bears are aiming for.

With only five more weeks before the 2007-08 NFL football season heads to the playoffs, the Bears are still hanging on, keeping their campaign alive as they go for at least a wild card playoff berth.

That means, the Chicago Bears HAVE TO win every single game from here on out. That mindset started against the Denver Broncos last Sunday, with Devin Hester virtually carrying his team from what appeared to be the loss that will take ‘em out of the playoff chase.

There it was, six more minutes to go and the Denver Broncos had a 14-point lead. Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman was dismal as always, staggering through a three-turnover day while feature back Cedric Benson watched from the sidelines in crutches after getting injured in the first half.

It sure looked gloomy and dark for Chicago as they were six minutes away from elimination from the playoff chase. A loss to Denver that Sunday will virtually take ‘em out of the playoff picture.

Luckily, Devin Hester had one heckuva’ third quarter, coming up with two touchdown returns that caught the Broncos defense off guard. The Bears knew that was enough to keep them in the game and, as it turned out, it was.

The Broncos made mistakes kicking and…

Devin Hester is waaay too fast in Madden NFL 2008

Friday, April 20th, 2007

It seems Chicago Bears return man Devin Hester has made a fan out of John Madden.

”BOOM THERE GOES THE DYNAMITE!” Sorry, can’t help it. He he… Yep, Devin Hester made Madden history, earning a 100 speed rating in the Madden NFL 2008 video game, making him Madden’s very first 100-speed man in the history of the EA Sports franchise.

NFL Football players used to covet two things while waiting for the annual installment of EA Sports’ Madden franchise, to be the cover athlete and to have good in-game ratings.

devin_hester.jpgWell, I guess these guys don’t want to be the cover athlete anymore after all those Madden cover boys getting injured in the same season their respective covers were unveiled but they still want to have great in-game ratings nevertheless.

And speaking of in-game ratings, Devin Hester has the best speed rating in Madden’s 2008 installment.

Devin Hester, the kick returner for the Chicago Bears, is the first player in the series’ history to land a perfect rating in speed. An Electronic Arts representative confirmed that Hester was given a 100 rating in speed in the upcoming Madden NFL 2008, beating the previous mark of 99 set by cornerbacks Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson, wide receiver Randy Moss, and others.

”That’s just about the best thing you could have told me,” Devin Hester said. ”It’s an honor. I don’t know what to say, really.”

Devin Hester tore up opposing special teams last year, returning an NFL-record six kicks for touchdowns in his rookie season. For good measure, the…

Bears wallow in the what-might-have-been muck and mire of Super Bowl XLI

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Super Bowl XLI: The Chicago Bears won the coin toss. Hmmm, sounds like a good sign as rookie sensation Devin Hester awaits Adam Vinatieri’s kickoff.

Then suddenly. the Bears fans jumped out of their seats, opened their arms toward the big screens and yelled in unison as Hester caught a kickoff and sprinted 92 yards into the end zone.

And that was only the first 14 seconds of Super Bowl XLI. But a coronation was unavoidable, and the great Ringless One is ringless no more. Yes, Grossman back as Bears QBPeyton Manning is a Super Bowl winner at last.

Without Rex Grossman, this could have been a pretty good Super Bowl. Don’t crown their you-know-whats. In the end, the Bears were what Dennis Green – and so many other critics – thought they were: REX is really GROSS, man!

For Chicago, it’s a case of déjà vu. Remember Tedd Ginn, Jr. and the so-called “Super Bowl coin toss curse”?

Hester’s runback matched Ginn’s feat in the Bowl Championship Series title game a month earlier. Ginn took the opening kick back 93 yards for a touchdown against Florida, but the Buckeyes wound up losing 41-14 to the Gators in college football’s national championship game.

Another bad sign for the Bears may have come before kickoff. Chicago won the coin toss; over the last 11 years, the coin-toss winner has lost the Super Bowl nine times.

Leaving the Miami stadium afterward, many Bears fans said the best team — with the best quarterback — had won.

It was a nice Super Bowl dream while it lasted.

In retrospect, maybe we should have seen it coming. Or maybe we did and didn’t want to admit it.

This is how I’ll remember the day.

Packers to survive Bears on NFL Sunday Night Football?

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

The Chicago Bears ARE the team to beat in the NFC and these Green Bay Packers won’t stand a chance.

You read it, the Chicago Bears are THE team to beat in the weak NFC Conference. I know I know, we can make a case for the Dallas Cowboys or the New Orleans Saints but the fact of the matter is, the Bears have the most complete team in the NFC and here’s why.

In case you haven’t heard of it by now, the Chicago Bears win NFL Football games because of their defense. The Bears defense have that authority to shut down any NFL Football team, no matter how bleak the situation is.

Of course we all saw that when the Chicago Bears defense rallied from a huge 20-plus points deficit to beat the stunned Arizona Cardinals in the second half. This loss was disheartening for the Cardinals. They were looking quite good hovering around .500 then, but after what the Bears defense did to their rookie quarterback Matt Leinart, the Cardinals wasn’t the same since.

And who can forget the infamous ”the Bears are who we thought they were” line during that fateful post-game press conference? Now THAT was funny. Even funnier than defensive leader, Brian Urlacher, making any offensive lineman from the opposing team piss on his pants.

Special teams. Yep, these Chicago Bears have special teams that can…

Blue Chipper Rex Grossman VS Bucs Sunday

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

After a turnover-less game last Monday, Rex Grossman is now saying he played with ”a chip on my shoulder.”

Now I don’t know what exactly does he mean by that but on Sunday, when he takes on the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Soldier Field, he is hoping that it stays there just enough for another win on the NFL Football field.

The Chicago Bears quarterback, Rex Grossman, played a solid game against the St. Louis Rams on NFL Monday Night Football. And yep, he claims he played Monday night with “a chip on my shoulder” after a barrage of criticism the young Florida Gator alumn’ received.

Rex Grossman, who has handled local and national criticism with aplomb and courtesy, acknowledged that attitude ”happens from time to time” but insisted the pounding and calls for Brian Griese to replace him were not the source of the chip.

”It’s the pressure I put on myself,” Chicago Bears QB Rex Grossman said. ”I’ve played bad and I expect [the media] to write bad things. I’m not offended by that. That’s not the chip on my shoulder.”

Don’t you worry Rex, I haven’t written anything bad about you, YET.

”The chip is that I need to start playing the way I’m capable so I can allow my teammates to play the way they’re supposed to. [Then] we can move the ball and win championships.”

Although there was nothing about Grossman’s performance Monday night, he played through an entire NFL Football game without any…
