2009 College Football Week 13 Gambling Guide

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhich teams will play for a BCS bowl game?

We’ll know soon enough. But right now, we have games for you to bet on for Week 13 of the 2009 NCAA college football season.

First we have the Oklahoma State Cowboys looking for their fourth straight victory as they battle the Oklahoma Sooners. The 12th Cowboys are on a roll with three straight wins, getting a huge lift from quarterback Zac Robinson.

He set an Oklahoma State record last season by completing 65 percent of his passes and still has a shot at achieving that mark again, completing 158 of 249 passes for a .635 completion percentage in 2009. Also stepping up for the Cowboys is running back Keith Toston. Since taking over as Oklahoma State’s featured rusher, the guy has averaged 103.6 yards.

arkansas_razorbacksOn the other hand, the Oklahoma Sooners will try to rebound from a 41-13 loss against Texas Tech. With the loss, Oklahoma (6-5, 4-3) now has its most losses since going 7-5 in 1999. It was just the fifth victory in 17 meetings for Texas Tech against the Sooners, and the Red Raiders had never won by more than 10 points in the series.

The huge win was a stunning reversal from last season, when the Sooners crushed Texas Tech 65-21 to end the Red Raiders’ national championship hopes. Oklahoma hadn’t lost this badly since falling to Texas 45-12 in 2005.

Expect the Sooners to bounce back against the…

Betting on the SEC championship game between the Florida Gators and the Alabama Crimson Tide?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Guys from SPORTSBETTING.com know it, that’s why they’re hyping this thing up as much as they can already.

The 2009 NCAA college football season hits Week 12 and already, attention is focused on the SEC championship game to be played a couple of weeks from now. It will, barring a complete disaster, be a matchup between the no.1 Florida Gators and no.2 Alabama Crimson Tide. Online sportsbooks currently have the Gators as the odds-on favorite to win the SEC at 5/9, with Alabama sporting odds of 7/5.

The BCS’ top 5 teams remain unchanged from the previous week with the Florida Gators still on top, the Alabama Crimson Tide second and then followed by the Texas Longhorns, the TCU Horned Frogs and the Cincinnati Bearcats.

tim_tebowFlorida hasn’t deviated from top spot since the BCS rankings first came out a little over a month ago and with two more easy games before the conference championship, there is no reason why the Gators shouldn’t remain at the top of the 2009 BCS rankings heading into the big game.

This week, Florida has a tilt against the Florida International Golden Panthers. This should be a blowout. It is one of the biggest pointspread margins of the season, with sportsbooks listing the Gators as 43-point favorites.

Florida is currently riding an 11-game straight up winning streak. They have recorded a mark of 9-5-1 ATS the last 15 times they’ve been listed as a favorite of 8 points or more, but they’re only 2-5-1 ATS in the last eight in that spread range. Although 43 points is a wild spread to ask a team to cover.

Sports bettors are still enamored with the no.1…

Will the 2009 NCAA College Football Season be a special one for the Florida State Seminoles?

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Well, at least their quarterback is coming back.

The 2009 NCAA college football season is just around the corner and it promises to be exciting as ever. And as far as the Florida State Seminoles are concerned, they’re hoping this year could be the year they finally win the big one.

And as stated, one thing that could make this a special year for the Florida State Seminoles is the fact that they have a returning quarterback. Christian Ponder was certainly not a great signal caller last year. He threw 13 interceptions and 14 touchdowns and only completed 55.7 percent of his passes. Those are not good numbers, but at least the Seminoles now have an experienced quarterback who they should be able to rely on during the 2009 campaign.

Florida State SeminolesThe extremely young offensive line is now a year older and that experience should be a huge plus to Ponder and running back Jermaine Thomas. Thomas rushed for 482 yards a year ago backing up the now departed Antone Smith. Thomas is a big play rusher and averaged seven yards per carry in a reserve role last year. If he can keep that up, the FSU offense could be surprisingly effective.

The big question now is how long will it take for the defense to turn into the same unit that ranked 15th in the nation in total defense last year?

Linebacker Dekoda Watson will be a star and…

Betting on North Carolina for March Madness?

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

If you’re in for the dramatic, I can’t blame you for taking UNC.

After all, aside from the fact that North Carolina is the ONLY no.1 seeded team not coming out of the Big East, the Tar Heels are coming in the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament looking to win the national title in Tyler Hansbrough’s last hurrah. Hansbrough has been the face of UNC the last four years and it is only fitting for them to go and win the big one in Hansbrough’s senior year.

But will North Carolina be a good bandwagon to ride on to win a lot of dough until the end of the tournament? Sure, they have Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson but can these guys be enough for UNC to end up with the national title?

Tyler HansbroughNo.1 has been a tenuous position atop the polls all year and the North Carolina Tar Heels demonstrated this again last week, when they were dumped by the Florida State Seminoles in the ACC semi-finals. They were beat 73-70, failing to cover as 8.5-point favorites.

While the Tar Heels were hot down the stretch going 16-4 straight up in their last 20 games, they were far from profitable for their backers, as they limped to a 7-13 mark against the spread.

Bettors actually made out okay in the tilt between UNC and Florida State, as the No.1 team in the nation was only…

Duke Blue Devils host the Florida State Seminoles

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt was only a matter of time before we did another Duke game.

You read it, the Florida State Seminoles travel to Durham, North Carolina to play its final ACC road game of the season as they slug it out against No.7 Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Which of these two teams can gain an edge before the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament gets here?

The Florida State Seminoles can finish second place in the ACC standings with victories in its final two conference games of the 2008-09 season. Florida State is led by ACC Player of the Year candidate Toney Douglas and ACC Coach of the Year nominee Leonard Hamilton. The Seminoles were picked to finished 10th by the attending media at ACC Operation Basketball in October and enter Tuesday’s game in a tie for third place in the league standings.

Duke Blue DevilsThe Seminoles have won six of their last eight games (all conference match-ups) and enters Tuesday’s game with the Duke Blue Devils carrying an overall record of 22-7, that’s the most regular season wins by Florida State since also winning 22 games prior to post-season play during the 1992-93 season.

The Seminoles also own a record of 9-5 in ACC play, that’s their most conference wins since winning nine during the 2005-06 season and tied for the third most ACC wins in school history. The Seminoles arrive in Durham looking to win their fifth ACC game and their 11th game away from Tallahassee this season. For Duke, after losing…

2008 NCAA College Football Week 14 Betting Picks

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

You think the festive mood is over? We still have teams in college football looking to still be in a festive mood over the weekend.

And if you didn’t get that, I’m referring to Week 14 of the 2008 NCAA college football season as the football week continues this Saturday with some huge games that have implications on this year’s race for the BCS bowl games.

First we have the Oklahoma Sooners trying to do what they can to reach the conference title game when they travel to Oklahoma State to face the Cowboys. Of course, the Cowboys would like nothing better than to spoil the grand plans of their archrivals.

The No.3 Oklahoma Sooners forged a Tim Tebowthree-way tie atop the South Division with No.4 Texas and No.7 Texas Tech with a 65-21 dismantling of the Red Raiders last Saturday. The win moved Oklahoma up to third in the most recent BCS standings, but the Sooners remained behind the Longhorns, whom the Sooners lost to 45-35 on Oct. 11.

If all three teams win their respective games this weekend, the Big 12 will use the BCS standings to determine the South Division champion to play No.12 Missouri in the Big 12 title game. That would bode well for the Oklahoma Sooners, who already are ranked ahead of Texas in the Harris and coaches polls and would receive a larger boost to their…
