Teams continue to prepare for the 2010 NFL Season

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgChemistry, perhaps that’s the key to winning a Super Bowl.

Or is it defense? A hot shot quarterback with reliable receivers? The wildcat? Those are just some of the questions NFL teams are trying to answer as they prepare for the 2010 NFL football season in a few months.

That’s probably why some of these teams are signing names here and there to get that perfect combination they are hoping will win them the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals, for instance, have scheduled a visit with Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, a restricted free agent, as they explore adding depth as well as potential competition for Matt Leinart for that QB spot.

If the Cardinals sign Whitehurst and the Chargers decline to match the offer, Arizona would owe San Diego a third-round draft pick, which is the qualifying contract tender that was used on the quarterback, who was a third-round choice in 2006. That tender is worth $1,176,000 for the 2010 season.

The Cardinals have two third-round draft choices next month, having acquired Baltimore’s third- and fourth-round picks in a deal that sent wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the Ravens.

Leinart is the only quarterback currently under contract on the Cardinals’ roster.

On the other hand, New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club has agreed to re-sign reserve defensive back Leigh Torrence to a one-year contract.

Torrence has been with the Saints since being claimed off waivers in…

Ben Roethlisberger is sorry for raping some girl

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Really? He is?

Yes, Ben Roethlisberger is once again making the headlines prior to the start of the football season. This time, it doesn’t involve motorcycle accidents, Super Bowl hangovers or any other shit Big Ben usually finds himself into. This time, coming to the 2010 NFL football season, Roethlisberger is trying to rebuild his image after sexually assaulting a 20 – year – old college student.

Wow. First it was Tiger Woods and now Ben Roethlisberger? Jeez… These guys who have these once squeaky clean reputations are really getting hammered these days huh? Who’s next? Jerry Sloan?

Roethlisberger, who luckily won’t be facing criminal charges after the 20 – year – old student gave up on the case since her accusations could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt, apologized to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the NFL, and more importantly, to football fans for the entire fiasco.

Oh yes, Roethlisberger will walk, just like Kobe Bryant did a few years ago after the alleged rape incident in Colorado. Huge stars like them usually get a free get – out – of – jail card.

”Here the overall circumstances do not lead to a viable prosecution. If they did, I would be pursuing it vigorously,” Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright said. ”We do not prosecute…

Georgia Tech V Iowa Hawkeyes in 2010 Orange Bowl

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWill we see another underdog make a cheerleader cry?

The BCS bowl season continues and after we saw the Boise State Broncos upset the TCU Horned Frogs at the Fiesta Bowl to make the beautiful TCU cheerleaders cry from the sidelines, the 5-point underdogs Iowa Hawkeyes EYE for the same as they take on Georgia Tech at the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl.

The Coastal Division champions Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets won the conference title with a thrilling 39-34 win over Atlantic Division champions Clemson Tigers at the 2009 Dr. Pepper ACC Football Championship at Raymond James Stadium on December 5. Led by the ACC Coach of the Year, Paul Johnson, the championship was the Yellow Jackets’ first outright ACC championship since 1990.

Georgia Tech has been to the Orange Bowl five times with its last appearance coming in 1967, in the final game coached by the legendary Bobby Dodd. They are looking for a successful sixth trip and with the team they have right now, the Iowa Hawkeyes are definitely in a whole lot of trouble.

Georgia Tech placed five offensive players and six players overall on the 2009 All-ACC first-team; quarterback Josh Nesbitt, running back Jonathan Dwyer, receiver Demaryius Thomas, guard Cord Howard, center Sean Bedford and defensive end Derrick Morgan. Morgan was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, the first Yellow Jacket to ever earn the award. He was also named as a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.

If the Hawkeyes want to come up with an upset…

2009 College Football Week 14 Gambling Guide

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Yep, the college gridiron has a lot more this week other than that huge SEC title game between Florida and Alabama.

Of course, since that game for the SEC championship is arguably the biggest game of the 2009 NCAA college football season to date, we can’t blame you for shutting down everything else but since we are here to make some picks for you, we’ll show you some games you can bet on as well before putting mom’s cash on Florida.

First, we have the Cincinnati Bearcats gunning for their 12th straight win as they face the Pittsburgh Panthers. Bearcats QB Tony Pike, making his first start since injuring his left forearm on Oct. 15 against South Florida, passed for 399 yards and six touchdowns helping fifth-ranked Cincinnati become 11-0 for the first time in school history with a 49-36 victory over Illinois. With the win, Cincinnati established a school record with its 17th consecutive regular season victory.

usc_trojansThe Pittsburgh Panthers on the other hand, have tight end Dorin Dickerson, who has been selected as a finalist for the John Mackey Award, an award presented to the nation’s top tight end. He joins Aaron Hernandez of Florida and Dennis Petta of BYU as finalists.

But will he be enough to help the Panthers outplay Cincinnati’s Tony Pike? I don’t think so. Pick the Bearcats by a touchdown.

Next, we have the USC Trojans. They still have a shot at tying for second in…

Teams on top of the 2009 BCS Rankings after Week 12

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYeah, it’s still Florida.

As expected, the Florida Gators remain atop the BCS standings after Week 12 of the 2009 NCAA college football season.

The Florida Gators, which had to fight for a 10-point win at South Carolina, remain first with a BCS average of .9833, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide at .9521 and the Texas Longhorns at .9261.

The nation’s three remaining unbeaten schools; TCU Horned Frogs, Cincinnati Bearcats and Boise State Broncos, are holding steady at fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

TCU, at no.4, is the highest ranked team that does not secure a BCS berth automatically by virtue of winning tcu_horned_frogsits league. This is the highest BCS ranking ever for any team without an automatic bid to any of the big money college bowl games.

There was no change in the top eight teams from Week 11 to Week 12.

Rounding out the BCS top 10 is Georgia Tech at No.7, followed by Louisiana State, Pittsburgh and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The top eight teams ranked in the 2009 BCS rankings in Week 11 did exactly what they needed to do to hold onto their positions as the week played out. Florida went on the road to Columbia S.C. and took care of business by defeating South Carolina.

The Alabama Crimson Tide ventured into hostile territory and manhandled Mississippi State while Texas stepped out of…

Anthony Johnson and Josh Koscheck finally meet

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThat’s this Saturday people.

In what should be the biggest fight of Anthony Rumble Johnson’s career, he’s taking on one of the true bona fide monsters inside the Octagon when he goes up against Josh Koscheck in UFC 106 this Saturday at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And in case you didn’t know, Johnson just got off from his fight with Yoshiyuki Yoshida back in UFC 104 a month ago. Is taking on a guy like Josh Koscheck the right way to go?

”I knew it was time for me to step up my game and fight some guys that are straight up, hardcore fighters. Why not? If I want to get to the top I have to fight the best, and he’s one of the best so I’m taking that step,” Anthony Rumble Johnson said.

anthony_johnsonJohnson knows he has to step it up if he wants a title shot and he knows he has to go through Koscheck first.

Johnson has a professional record of 8-2 with six wins coming by way of knockout. This 25-year-old Georgia native has decided to take this opportunity for a big fight at UFC 106 to show that he is ready to compete with the elite in the welterweight division.

He is an exciting prospect at welterweight. In a fairly talent-rich division, he’s captured the attention of many observers because of his rare blend of size, athleticism and striking ability.

On the other hand, Josh Koscheck gained fame from…

2009 College Football Week 11 Gambling Guide

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt’s Week 11 and we have Florida trying to extend a nation-best 18-game winning streak.

Yep, it has been that crazy for the Florida Gators this 2009 NCAA college football season. Can they remain on top of the BCS after this weekend? They have the South Carolina Gamecocks next and I have a feeling the Gators will continue pounding on the rest of the field.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will be led by quarterback Stephen Garcia, who has thrown for 2,094 yards, including three 300-yard games. The 6-2, 219-pound sophomore has thrown 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Garcia ranks 10th in the SEC in passing efficiency and yet he squandered chances for signature moments, such as the final offensive snap at Georgia.

Don’t expect these guys to stop the Florida Gators from winning their 19th straight game.

tcu_horned_frogsWe also have some other games that should prove to be profitable for ya’ll, like this one between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Hawkeyes are looking to improve their current BCS standing, a win over Ohio State will do just that.

The 4th seeded Iowa Hawkeyes will continue to rely on the services of quarterback Ricky Stanzi, despite throwing five interceptions in their last win against Indiana.

Iowa remains fourth in the BCS for the second straight week, their highest ranking in school history. The Hawkeyes are also the highest-rated Big Ten team in the BCS. Iowa is 78-43 in this decade (.644), one of the best winning percentages in school history. The Hawkeyes were 77-40-4 (.652) during the 1980s.

But will you pick them over Ohio State..?

Your Gambling Guide for Week 9 in College Football

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Will we see some movers in the BCS rankings this week?

You know it, Week 9 of the 2009 NCAA college football season continues with more than a few huge games that could have an impact on the BCS standings after the weekend.

First, we have this game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the team on top of the BCS food chain, the Florida Gators. The annual showdown in Jacksonville will give the Bulldogs a chance to prove that they still belong in the mix with the top teams in the nation as they play the Gators.

The Georgia Bulldogs, who lost at home to LSU and tim_tebowTennessee, gained some rhythm with a huge 34-10 win at Vanderbilt as they look to close the month with an upset over the defending BCS champions.

For Florida, all eyes will be on Tim Tebow and his sore shoulder. If he is able to play all out with no effects from the bruised non-throwing shoulder he suffered at Kentucky, Florida should put up a lot of points. The Gators are averaging more than 40 points per game, and Tebow accounts for…

Who’ll top BCS Rankings in Week 8 of College Football?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Who cares as long as you win a lot of dough this weekend right?

That’s exactly what we’ll be helping you with as Week 8 of the 2009 NCAA college football season continues.

On Friday, two powerhouse teams collide when the no.3 Texas Longhorns play the Missouri Tigers in what would be the Longhorns’ first test as the no.3 team in the nation. Texas (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) really took over in the second half against Oklahoma in their 16-13 win last weekend. The question now is, do they have enough left in the tank for what is shaping up to be another classic showdown with the Tigers?

The Missouri Tigers are going to play like a desperate team. Losing a second conference game this early could hamper any chances of making the conference title game. The only thing they could do right now is pray that linebacker Will Ebner, after undergoing knee surgery a few days ago, can make it in time for Texas.

alabama_crimson_tideDo yourself a favor and bet on the Longhorns on this one.

Next, we have the Tennessee Volunteers visiting the no.2 team in the nation, the Alabama Crimson Tide. After getting a huge 45-19 win over Georgia, the Volunteers headed into their bye week with a good feeling about where they are headed at this point of the season. They will now be facing the Alabama Crimson Tide and in the eyes of many long-time Volunteer fans, an upset of the Crimson Tide would make this season a success even if the team finishes the season without winning a single game again.

I can’t blame them too, the Alabama Crimson Tide, ranked no.2 in…

Will the Florida Gators have Tim Tebow against LSU?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Who is the beast in the SEC?

We’ll find out Saturday as Week 6 of the 2009 NCAA college football season continues with two undefeated teams going at it.

You read it, on one side, we have the 4-0 Florida Gators from the SEC East, looking to defend the BCS national title they won last year. And since this is the final year that they’ll be having Tim Tebow behind center, they are hoping that they’d be able to lift the national title again before Superman goes pro and plays for the Cleveland Browns.

On the other end, we have the 5-0 LSU Tigers from the SEC West trying to reclaim their spot on top of the SEC and play for the national title once again. Their gutsy win over Georgia answered some questions on their resolve this year. Are they really good enough to play for the title again? A win over the defending champions Florida Gators will sure prove that.

tim_tebowWithout a shadow of a doubt, this is the biggest college football game of the week and whichever team that comes out of this one unscathed and STILL undefeated should definitely be the odds on favorite to go all the way and win the BCS national championship.

But as far as Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer is concerned, he’s just hoping that his star quarterback can be a part of it.

Florida coach Urban Meyer is hopeful that senior quarterback Tim Tebow will…
