The 2010 March Madness Bracket Tournament is coming, which among these teams will you bet on?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

You ready?

As we move deep into the month of March, we inch ever closer to the 2010 March Madness bracket tournament and the madness that ensues each and every spring in college basketball. With just one week remaining in conference play, the right to automatic bids are already up for grabs.

On that note, here are the top five teams lording over the college basketball right now, starting with the best of ‘em all, the Syracuse Orange. Syracuse’s rise to the top of the national polls produced an Orange infusion in the college basketball power rankings.

The Orange’s 95-77 victory Saturday over Villanova helped Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim regain his position as the no.1 coach in the power rankings too, them rankings that measure the nation’s top performers at each position. Picked before the season to finish sixth in the Big East, Syracuse already has clinched at least a share of the conference title. With a 27-2 overall record and an incredibly effective two-three zone defensive scheme, Syracuse should be the team to beat once the brackets are here.

Following at the second spot are the Kansas Jayhawks. After suffering their first conference loss, the Jayhawks are determined to bounce back. Coach Bill Self said, ”I am believing we can get something out of (the OSU loss). I don’t think the thing is broken. I do think we need to evaluate our things. We need to take great pride in the things that help us win, especially this time of year.”

The loss at Oklahoma State could be a sign of fate for Kansas as the last time the Jayhawks visited Stillwater back in 2008, they suffered a one-point defeat. Then they went on to win out, capturing the NCAA title. The defeat also meant that the only team to ever go undefeated in Big 12 play remains the 2001-02 Jayhawks squad coached by…

The March Madness Bracket after Championship Week

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Championship Week is finally over, setting us up for the biggest tournament in college hoops.

In case you didn’t get that, the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament will start things off on March 19, when round one of the 64-team tournament begins. The road for the college basketball national title officially begins and in case you haven’t felt it yet, March Madness is finally here.

The Louisville Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Connecticut Huskies have the Big East on the verge of putting up a huge impact in the tournament as all three teams from the conference are seeded no.1 this March.

North Carolina Tar HeelsThe only no.1 seeded team not coming out of the Big East is the North Carolina Tar Heels of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Tar Heels, despite losing in the ACC conference tournament, is seeded no.1 in the South division after securing the ACC regular season title.

The Louisville Cardinals are the top overall seed in the tournament and will play in the Midwest. Although they have fellow Big East rivals like the Connecticut Huskies

Things to consider before the 2008 March Madness

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis year, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, North Carolina and Duke are forces to be reckoned with come the Final Four.

As the 2008 NCAA college basketball regular season winds down and conference tournaments tip off, North Carolina, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, Kansas, Duke, Stanford, Xavier, Texas and Wisconsin became the top ten teams this year and it looks like there will be no easy picks.

Most of these teams have very long standing traditions specifically in basketball. With this being said then we know how much hard work goes in and out of these schools gyms.

Tyler HansbroughOne of the most impressive players this year comes from Kansas State in the name of Michael Beasley. A player averaging 12.6 Rebounds, 26.7 Points, 1.6 Steals and 1.4 blocks a game who by far has the potential to be dominant in the professional league as well.

Not far behind is Tyler Hansbrough from North Carolina averaging 10.4 rebounds, 1.6 Steals and 23.4 points a contest. Not to shabby on his 2nd year at the helm of the Tar Heels. Being next in voting to J.J. Redick last year for the ACC player of the year has to bring pressure this time around, naturally Tyler is taking it head on.

Another impressive year as usual and kudos to one of the best coaches in basketball history is Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Another year and another team rich in teamwork and fast paced offensive…

2007 NCAA Final Four leaves March without the Madness

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Yep, the Madness in March is officially gone.

Of course, with the North Carolina Tar Heels already gone and out of the 2007 March Madness bracket tournament, what is there left to watch? Well, if you’re still going ga-ga over this annual college hoops spectacle, here are a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t and just wait for the next NFL Football season in September.

The MADNESS is GONE. This is the first time since 1993 that we have NCAA Final Four teams whose seeds don’t go below No.2. Yep, with top seeded teams Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes going up against No.2 seeded clubs like the UCLA Bruins and the Georgetown Hoyas, this batch of the Final Four could very well be a little more predictable than usual.

greg_oden4.jpg”We had great parity throughout the tournament and the seeds held up,” said Thomas O’Connor, the athletic director of the George Mason Patriots. ”There’s nothing magical about it. That’s what makes college basketball a fantastic game. In any given year, you have situations like what occurred last year with us, and then you have what’s happening this year.”

You know, I wouldn’t normally agree with morons like this one but with no sign of the light blue North Carolina, I guess I would have to.

”When they seeded this thing, they hit it right on the nail,” Memphis Tigers head coach John Calipari said of the 10-member…
