Team England has high hopes of winning the World Cup for the second time coming to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. They have shown exceptional form under Coach Fabio Capello, who replaced Steve Mclaren in 2007. With the Italian coach at the controls, England has won more than 71 percent of its matches.

They dominated their World Cup qualifying group, winning nine out of 10 matches, they also qualified with a record that included 34 goals for and just six against. England’s overall record in 2009 was: 11 matches played – seven wins, three losses, and a draw.

Amongst their most impressive victories, a crushing 5-1 defeat of Croatia exacted a modicum of revenge on the side that ended their Euro Championship hopes two years previously and cemented England as strong contenders for South Africa 2010.

Additionally, many of England’s under-performing players such as Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard came to the fore in qualification and enjoyed some of their best performances in an England shirt. Aaron Lennon and Gareth Barry also stepped out of the shadow of the squad’s bigger names to establish themselves as important players for Capello.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are two of the best…

Bet on who will be the Super Bowl XLIV MVP this Sunday

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Peyton Manning, Pierre Garcon, Drew Brees and Reggie Bush, these guys are probably your prime candidates to win Super Bowl MVP this Sunday.

EA Sports and John Madden looked into their crystal ball and did all bettors a favor by letting them know not only the outcome of Super Bowl XLIV, but the simulated video game they ran also pegged the MVP.

I feel sorry for all of those who already bet on someone other than Drew Brees, as it was none other than the New Orleans Saints quarterback who won the award in the simulated Super Bowl in Madden NFL 10.

Online sportsbooks like SPORTSBETTING.com have had the Super Bowl MVP prop betting option up for over a week now. It is always one of the more popular options for the sports betting public. And with the big game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints just around the corner, this is probably your last chance to make your pick.

Madden NFL 10’s Super Bowl MVP, Drew Brees, is currently the second most popular option with bettors, sitting right behind, as you might expect, Peyton Manning. Sportsbooks are currently reporting Manning with 34 percent of all the MVP betting action.

When it comes to MVP betting, QBs are usually a decent choice…

With only days before the 2009 NFL Football Season starts, Marvin Harrison still has no team yet…

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

It’s shocking really how one of the premiere wide receivers in the game still doesn’t have a team to play for.

Now former Indianapolis Colts wideout Marvin Harrison, now a free agent, said he has no plans to retire and that he wants to play in the 2009 NFL football season, according to his agent, Tom Condon.

Condon said the problematic knee that has limited some of the speed and overall effectiveness we usually see from Marvin Harrison hasn’t been an issue either. Harrison, who is now 37, was released by the Indianapolis Colts after the 2008 season, in large part for salary-cap relief. Harrison, who didn’t agree to a restructured contract, was scheduled to count more than $13 million against the Colts’ 2009 cap.

”I played in 15 games last year and a playoff game, and I intend to play again this season,” Marvin Harrison said in an interview.

marvin_harrisonMarvin Harrison and Indianapolis parting ways in the offseason ended Harrison’s 13-year run with the Colts, with whom he established himself as one of the top receivers in NFL history and built up likely Hall of Fame credentials that include 1,102 receptions for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns.

Last season, Harrison had just 60 catches for 636 yards and five touchdowns, the lowest full single season totals of his career. That’s after he missed 11 games in 2007 because of a knee injury, catching just 20 passes and scoring one touchdown.

There hasn’t been much interest in Harrison at this point, but Condon said he expects his client to sign with a team soon before the season begins.

Harrison was selected by the Colts with the 19th selection in…

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire, which NBA Star will move in 2010?

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

We are still a full season and a half away from the summer of 2010 but that can’t stop us from raving about it.

After all, the summer of 2010 will probably have the MOST number of superstars landing on a new team. One of which is of course, LeBron James. Many basketball fans are already wondering if he’ll stay in Cleveland regardless of what he can accomplish with them this 2009 NBA basketball season or the next. And even if he decides to stay in Cleveland, there are still some big names left on the 2010 free agency pool who can create headlines the moment they decide to sign with a different team.

NBA superstars who will have their contracts expire next year include Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, 2010 NBA Free AgentsJoe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd.

And since we have quite a number of unrestricted free agents next year, we’ll just stick with four superstars who’ll definitely have an impact to any team that they decide to play for next if they do decide to move, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire and yes, LeBron James.

So who’ll be more likely to stay with their current team and who are those…

Phoenix Suns get Jason Richardson from the Bobcats

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSteve Kerr sure have been busy since taking over as general manager of the Suns.

After a somewhat less stellar start to the 2008-09 NBA basketball season, Steve Kerr was forced to come up with his second blockbuster deal as the general manager of the Phoenix Suns, barely a year since trading Shawn Marion to Miami for Shaquille O’Neal back in February.

In what Kerr is hoping to be the answer for their struggles this season, the Phoenix Suns acquired shooting guard Jason Richardson from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for forward Boris Diaw and defensive star Raja Bell.

With Jason Richardson coming to Jason RichardsonPhoenix, Suns head coach Terry Porter will now have another option on the court offensively. J-Rich is one of the best scorers in the league today and he should give the Suns that dynamic threat from the two-guard position back since Joe Johnson left Phoenix for the ATL.

”We felt like we needed to shake things up a little bit,” Phoenix Suns general manager Steve Kerr said in a telephone interview. ”We wanted to add a great scorer in the backcourt to give us better balance to take some of the pressure off of Steve [Nash].”

The Charlotte Bobcats lost a terrific talent in Richardson although their new additions of Raja Bell and Boris Diaw should…

Which football teams playing in the 2008 English Premier League are dealing with injuries?

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

As if we care. For those of you who do, read on.

Many football teams playing in the 2008 English Premier League are dealing with injuries. Chelsea is at the top of the standings with their unbeaten start but they are already missing a number of their key players.

In their Champions League match with FCR Cluj, Chelsea was without Joe Cole, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho and Ashley Cole. What’s even worse is that they lost Didier Drogba to a knee injury in that match and he could be out of a while. John Terry and Alex were also hurt in that match.

”I need to think for the game on Sunday,” Cristiano Ronaldosaid manager Luiz Felipe Scolari. ”I have a few days to build the team again. I don’t know now what the possibilities I have for Sunday are.”

The injuries really could cause Chelsea to fall out of first place.

”If Didier is out for a while, we will have to pitch in with goals from all around the team, which we can do, though the situation is not ideal,” said midfielder Frank Lampard. ”The experience is not really there, but I believe the quality is.”

Sunderland, on the other hand, is still without striker Kenwyne Jones.

”Kenwyne’s making good progress,” Sunderland manager Roy Keane said. ”The surgeon is delighted with the way it is going. He’s working extremely hard to get back and is showing…”

Manchester United wins 2008 Champions League Final

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis is probably the most dramatic finish I’ve seen in a Champions League final since I started watching soccer.

And that’s last year. Hee hee… But still, the conclusion of the 2008 UEFA Champions League final between the Manchester United Red Devils and Chelsea FC is probably one of the most exciting finishes ever seen on the pitch and unfortunately for football fans, only one team can win.

One team did win and this year, Manchester United became champions of all of Europe. The Red Devils, after scoring the first goal of the match, won the Champions League final, winning on penalties 6-5 to beat Chelsea FC after ending regulation and TWO extra periods in a 1-1 deadlock.

It was a very draining game Manchester Unitedfor Chelsea both physically and emotionally too. After Man-U star Cristiano Ronaldo missed his kick on the penalty shootout to decide the Champions League final, Chelsea all of a sudden had the chance to steal the European title away from their rivals from Old Trafford.

Unfortunately for the Blues, their captain (of all people…) John Terry missed his as well, relinquishing the advantage back to the Red Devils. And after Man-U goalie Edwin Van der Sar stopped Chelsea’s…

Who will capture the 2007-08 English Premiere League title? Chelsea FC or Manchester United?

Friday, May 9th, 2008

It’s a foot race for the Premiere League title! (Just pretend you’re excited just by reading that…)

Chelsea boss Avram Grant believes Wigan Athletic can shock Manchester United on Sunday to give his side the chance of clinching the 2007-08 English Premiere League title, their third Premier League title in four seasons.

”I’ve been involved in football for 30 years and I believe in the traditions of English football so I don’t think they will give United an easy game,” Chelsea FC big boss Avram Grant said.

Chelsea skipper John Terry Chelsea FC manager Avram Grantconcurred, adding, ”Wigan has been a real credit to them and they did themselves justice when they got a draw against us so I’m sure they’ll battle all the way against United.”

Chelsea FC currently hold the 2nd spot in the English Premier League behind the Manchester United Red Devils and four points ahead of Arsenal. Both Chelsea and Man-U are also involved in the 2008 UEFA Champions League final on May 21 in Moscow.

Both teams are level on points, but with a vastly superior goal difference leaders, the Manchester United Red Devils remain heavy favorites to…

Chelsea warns Manchester United, title is on loan

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Seems like these Chelsea FC boys are already running their mouths even before the new season starts.

We are STILL months away from the 2007-08 English Premiere League season and yet, Chelsea team captain John Terry is already making stupid claims, one of which is the one about the 2007 Premiership title being ‘ON LOAN’ with Manchester United. (Obviously, I’m a Red Devil fan…)

Yep, after Chelsea failed to win the title for a three-peat under Jose Mourinho last season, John Terry is already bad-mouthing Manchester United, mounting some sort of a challenge to their English rivals once the brand new season kicks off.

soccer_babes.jpgThis is the same Manchester United team who re-emerged as the dominant force in the English game. And with the young tandem of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo still having their best days as a professional footballer ahead of them, I reckon we’ll see yet another season dominated by Man-U.

Apparently, Chelsea captain John Terry thinks otherwise.

After Chelsea went through a season plagued by various player injuries, most notable of which was the one that got to Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack, Terry insists that…
