A Quick Look on What’s Been Happening in the 2009 UEFA Champions League and Soccer in General

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Because soccer is just too boring to write about every single day.

FC Barcelona struck what may prove to be the decisive blow in the Spanish title race earning a 6-2 win at Real Madrid CF, with Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry scoring two apiece for the 2009 UEFA Champions League semi-finalists.

Josep Guardiola’s side’s once commanding lead at the top of the Liga had shrunk to just four points before kick-off at the Santiago Bernabéu, and they had reason to be nervous just 14 minutes into the fixture as an unmarked Gonzalo Higuaín headed Madrid into the lead. However, the Barça response was to be devastating, with Messi flicking a ball over the Madrid defense for Henry to level on 17 minutes before Carles Puyol headed them into a 20th-minute lead.

David BeckhamIn another games, Olympiacos CFP completed a domestic double after a 15-14 penalty shoot-out win against AEK Athens FC capped an unforgettable Greek Cup final, with Antonis Nikopolidis the hero after the sides finished level at 4-4 after extra time. The two sides took 17 penalties each, with Olympiacos goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis, 38, finally emerging as the hero of the hour, saving Agustin Pelletieri’s spot-kick before stepping up to convert the winner himself. It was a fitting end to perhaps the most exciting Greek Cup final of all time, with Olympiacos recovering from going 2-0 down to prevail.

Jose Mourinho expects to be back with Chelsea FC

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgOf course, he knows more than anyone else, that nobody can get it right in Stamford Bridge but him.

And since Chelsea FC, after firing Luiz Felipe Scolari, would now have their third manager in the post Jose Mourinho era, Mourinho expects that he’ll return as manager of the Blues one day.

Currently, Jose Mourinho is doing a solid job as boss of Inter Milan but because of the successive failures all these managers have been experiencing with Chelsea FC, the ”Special One” ain’t shutting the door on his former club just yet. Hell, Blues fans want him back anyway once new manager Guus Hiddink steps aside.

Jose Mourinho”If you are asking me if you think one day I will return to Chelsea, I tell you ‘yes, I think so’, although I’m not saying when,” Jose Mourinho said.

”We were so happy together. Chelsea fans have a different feeling for me. It’s a different emotion with them. I always wish them well because they are a special club for me and I have special friends there. I belong to their story and they belong to my story. I hope they get back to what they were because the club has changed.”

Mourinho believes his former club is still suffering from the after effects of his departure. And although…

Manchester United in UEFA Champions League Quarters

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt was sweet revenge for Sir Alex Ferguson and his Man-U contingent.

The 2009 UEFA Champions League just got interesting after Manchester United qualified for the quarter finals, earning a 2-0 win over Inter Milan and giving Ferguson a win over his rival, Jose Mourinho.

You see, Jose Mourinho, now with Inter Milan, has been kicking Ferguson’s ass for years when Mourinho was then with Chelsea FC. It was ironic that Ferguson was in a face-off with his old nemesis again and fortunately for Fergie, Manchester United managed to pull through this time around.

Thanks to strong early starts Cristiano Ronaldofrom Man-U in each of the two halves of the fixture, Manchester United defeated Inter Milan, 2-0, to earn the trip to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Nemanja Vidic came up with a header for Man-U early in the first half before Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the deal with another header early in the second. Of course, Old Trafford was more than happy to see their club moving on in the tournament, especially since it’s a win over Mourinho.

”My team was fantastic but they were not lucky,” Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho said.

There were times in the fixture that Inter Milan looked…

Jose Mourinho, Frank Lampard to reunite in Inter Milan?

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, to the loving soccer fans outside the United States, that’s almost as big as a ”dream” reunification between Shaq and Kobe.

While the battle rages on at the 2008 UEFA European Football Championships, big news started brewing at the San Siro. For all ya’ll who have no idea what that is, it’s home to the football team Inter Milan and now that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is running things there, news like this one wasn’t that surprising at all.

His first big move as new manager of Inter Milan? Lure Chelsea FC striker Frank Lampard to the team. While Lampard has showed no intentions of joining his former coach in his new club the last few weeks, his people is showing some positive signs now that the Chelsea FC striker just might make the move after all.

”At the moment I’ve been on holiday for about a week,” Franco Granello said, the agent of current Chelsea striker Frank Lampard. ”But it doesn’t seem to me that Lampard’s transfer has already been completed.”

”I have a meeting with Inter in 10 days but for now I’m enjoying the rest, seeing as I have so little.”

This ”Frank Lampard saga” is the only thing going for English football since they have no impact whatsoever with the ongoing Euro 2008 tournament. Lampard said…

Portugal exits from Euro 2008 after 3-2 loss to Germany

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Cristiano Ronaldo’s European Championship campaign is now over.

The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship saw its first BIG loss when Portugal was booted out of the tournament by Germany after losing 3-2 in their quarter-final fixture on the newly-laid turf at Basle’s St. Jakob-Park Thursday night.

Now that team Portugal is out of Euro 2008, people started putting the blame on Luiz Felipe Scolari, Portugal’s team manager, saying that his imminent departure from the national team for Chelsea FC in the English Premier League may have something to do why he failed to manage his team to the fullest against Germany in the quarter-finals.

Cristiano RonaldoFor what it’s worth, the Portugal boss IS blaming himself, but says it has nothing to do with his move for the Premiership.

”If I hadn’t announced it, we would have lost anyway,” Luiz Felipe Scolari said, referring to the notion that his move to Chelsea FC may have affected the way he managed his team last Thursday night.

”We lost because we didn’t do things with enough quality. It had nothing to do with this or that. Some people will imagine and will write that, but it had nothing to do with that.”

”I am responsible for choosing the players and placing them on the…”

Bodog has Odds on the 2008 FA Cup Final between Portsmouth and Cardiff City at the Wembley Stadium

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Who would’ve thought that none of the final four of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal will be playing in the FA Cup final?

That should probably give us one boring 2008 FA Cup final this Saturday right? Um… Sure it will. Hell, these soccer games don’t have much hype going for them anyway unless of course, David Beckham is playing.

STILL, after a season of shocks including Kevin Keegan’s return to Newcastle, the mass competition for promotion in the Championship and a wave goodbye from ‘The Special One’ Jose Mourinho, the biggest one of all would have to be the 2008 FA Cup final between Portsmouth and Cardiff City since this is the first time in 17 years that not one of the ‘big four’ have made it there.

Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth should be the clear favorites on Saturday against Cardiff City. Pompey were having a great season before things got serious in the FA Cup. They still finished a more than respectable eighth place in the Premier League, but you get the feeling that had they exited the cup competition early they may have challenged for a European slot via the league.

Without a win in five games Redknapp is well aware that his side haven’t been firing on all cylinders. He has been resting key players in the build up to their trip to Wembley, but he will still be slightly anxious with their…

Who will capture the 2007-08 English Premiere League title? Chelsea FC or Manchester United?

Friday, May 9th, 2008

It’s a foot race for the Premiere League title! (Just pretend you’re excited just by reading that…)

Chelsea boss Avram Grant believes Wigan Athletic can shock Manchester United on Sunday to give his side the chance of clinching the 2007-08 English Premiere League title, their third Premier League title in four seasons.

”I’ve been involved in football for 30 years and I believe in the traditions of English football so I don’t think they will give United an easy game,” Chelsea FC big boss Avram Grant said.

Chelsea skipper John Terry Chelsea FC manager Avram Grantconcurred, adding, ”Wigan has been a real credit to them and they did themselves justice when they got a draw against us so I’m sure they’ll battle all the way against United.”

Chelsea FC currently hold the 2nd spot in the English Premier League behind the Manchester United Red Devils and four points ahead of Arsenal. Both Chelsea and Man-U are also involved in the 2008 UEFA Champions League final on May 21 in Moscow.

Both teams are level on points, but with a vastly superior goal difference leaders, the Manchester United Red Devils remain heavy favorites to…

Jose Mourinho won’t be England football head coach

Friday, December 14th, 2007

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYep, he turned it down. He he… Probably because he knows he won’t be able to improve a damn thing anyway.

Former manager of Chelsea FC, Jose Mourinho, turned down the head coaching job for the England national football team after the (Football Association) FA fired Steve McClaren.

Steve McClaren got his ass fired for failing to qualify for the 2008 Euro Championships. The FA probably feels Jose Mourinho would be able to bring England back to prominence, unfortunately for them, he withdrew Monday after talking with FA officials Brian Barwick and Trevor Brooking.

”After Steve McClaren departed Jose Mourinhothe England football team, my representatives had contacts with the FA,” Jose Mourinho said in a statement released through his agent, Jorge Mendes.

”Following that, I, myself, had interesting conversations with Brian Barwick and Trevor Brooking with whom I exchanged ideas with a view to evaluating the current situation of the English national team and the aims that would be pursued if I were in fact invited to take this post.”

”After reflecting at length, I took the decision to exclude myself from…”

Manchester United says they’re not panicking this 2007 English Premiere League season yet

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Well, that’s according to Man-U star Ryan Giggs anyway.

In case you were living under a rock lately, defending Premiership champions, Manchester United, had a rather humbling start to the brand new 2007-08 English Premiere League season.

Yep, Manchester United was caught sleeping after the first three games of the season. They scored just two points after three fixtures, failing to even make it to the top four spots of the early standings.

As of press time, riding from their impressive five-game winning streak, Manchester United now sits second best, erasing the fears Man-U supporters had after the rather disappointing start of their favorite team.

Of course, their win over Chelsea FC last Sunday was HUGE. A game that probably led to the demise of the Jose Mourinho era in Stamford Bridge. (With that said… Let’s take a moment of silence to… Aw fuck it…)

Ryan Giggs knows that his club’s sudden resurgence the past few days is big for their campaign to defend the Premiership title this year. Of course, he also knows playing second fiddle to Manchester City at the start of the season just…

Jose Mourinho is now JOBLESS, out of Chelsea FC this 2007-08 English Premiere League Season

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Yep, it’s either they finally got rid of this guy or he finally quit. Either way, he’s gone, leaving the rest of us in peace.

As irritating as this guy has been the past few years, I must admit that I’ve grown fond of this guy. You know, watching him make all those tantrums from the sidelines while he watches the Blues get pounded time and time again on the pitch this 2007-08 English Premiere League season sure was funny.

Unfortunately, we won’t see Jose Mourinho again on the Chelsea FC bench this season. Mourinho and Chelsea agreed to part ways, setting up an event nobody would probably care.

Jose MourinhoYep, the guy’s out following his team’s somewhat slow start to the 2007-08 English Premiership season, not to mention failing to win the big one for the past three years. Yeah sure, Jose Mourinho was the guy who led the Blues to twice as many Premiership titles than any other manager in the history of Chelsea FC, but they probably were just looking for a reason to boot him out and this season, they probably found one.

”Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have agreed to part company today by mutual consent,” as stated in the team’s…
