Fernando Alonso signs three-year deal with Ferrari

Monday, January 4th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgLooks like Ferrari is serious about dominating the field next season.

In case you haven’t been watching the 2009 F1 season, to say that it hasn’t been Ferrari’s year could be an understatement.

Next season, it looks like Ferrari intends to make a huge bid as far as the 2010 title is concerned because they just signed former double world champion Fernando Alonso to a three-year deal.

That’s right, Fernando Alonso, for the second time in his career, is leaving Renault to sign with another team, this time with Ferrari. Just a few years ago, he left Renault to sign with McLaren. The honeymoon between him and McLaren ended when a young Lewis Hamilton entered the picture. Luckily, Renault was there to take Alonso back, only for him to leave the team again to sign with Ferrari.

Alonso signing with Ferrari means he’ll be teammates with his rival Felipe Massa. That also means Kimi Raikkonen is leaving the team but I reckon with Alonso’s skill set, the Italians won’t miss the Finn one bit.

”We are very proud to welcome to our team another winning driver, who has demonstrated his amazing talent by winning two world championships in his career to date,” said Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali.

”Of course, we wish to thank Kimi for everything he has done during his time with Ferrari.”

”In his first year with us he managed to win the…”

2009 F1 Champion Jenson Button moving to McLaren?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIn case you didn’t know, Jenson Button secured the world title in Brazil.

And although he didn’t win the Brazilian Grand Prix, Jenson Button scored just enough points to secure the world championship this 2009 F1 season.

However, there are rumors that claim Brawn GP could lose the newly crowned champion to McLaren. Yes, you read it, McLaren is once again making some moves to land them a world champion. They did the same thing to Renault’s Fernando Alonso a few years ago and just recently, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Why not go for another one and go after Brawn GP’s 2009 champion Jenson Button?

With Brawn GP not as rich as the big boys of Formula One like Ferrari, McLaren and Renault, they are in danger of losing Button if those richer teams start waiving more money in front of the British sensation. Team owner Ross Brawn knows it too, saying that it’s up to Button now.

jenson_buttonApparently, Jenson Button wants to earn the £8 million a year he was earning before taking a £5 million pay cut when former team owners, Honda, pulled out last December. Brawn knows money is the striking point in contract negotiations.

”Jenson has a contract with us. But that contract is not the salary of a World Champion, not the salary of a team that is in a much stronger position than it was 10 months ago,” Ross Brawn said. ”We’re working with Jenson to find a balance between what we can afford and what he feels is fair for his status and the contribution he can make in the future.”

The problem is, they don’t have anything to lure Button back…

Raikkonen will return to McLaren after the F1 Season

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read it, the fiery Finn is coming back to McLaren, looking to save the team from the debacle they’ve been having this year.

Looks like McLaren – Mercedes is already making some moves to rectify the pathetic campaign they’ve been having this 2009 F1 season. In case you haven’t been paying attention, McLaren’s defending champion, Lewis Hamilton, has only won a couple of races this season and the team in general hasn’t been faring well too, dropping to fourth in the constructors championship standings.

With Lewis Hamilton struggling this year, McLaren has to come up with an insurance policy for next year’s run and with the team signing a former world champion like Kimi Raikkonen, they may have found exactly that.

kimi_raikkonenKimi Raikkonen raced for McLaren a few years ago so there won’t be any adjustments as far as the Finn is concerned. Back in 2007, Kimi Raikkonen left McLaren for Ferrari in a £25 million a year deal that made him the highest paid driver on the grid.

He rewarded them by winning the world championship in his debut campaign but his position came under threat when Fernando Alonso, Renault’s double world champion, was rumored last year to join Ferrari and replace him.

The major problem has been Raikkonen’s $50 million (£31 million) a year contract with…

2009 F1 Singapore Grand Prix puts the lights out

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Round 14 of the 2009 F1 season resumes in Singapore where the lights will be out and the excitement will be at a fever pitch.

The 2009 F1 Singapore Grand Prix is the only night race you’ll get to see this season. It is staged on an exciting 5.067-kilometre (3.148-mile) street track in the heart of the colorful and cosmopolitan city.

Jenson Button arrives at the city’s picturesque Marina Bay with a reduced 14-point lead over teammate and title rival Rubens Barrichello, while Sebastian Vettel, who is 26 points adrift of Button, will be hoping that the Brawn drivers slip up.

jenson_buttonMcLaren-Mercedes will introduce their last major upgrade package of the year and the circuit should suit the MP4-24 as Lewis Hamilton targets his second win of the season.

The Singapore Grand Prix has become one of the most anticipated races of the F1 calendar and this weekend, the bright lights of the city’s financial center in the background will definitely give the race a unique atmosphere.

”It’s a very physical circuit, more than I expected, actually,” says 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton. ”You need to put a lot of work into the car to get a good lap, I’d say it requires double the energy of Monaco over a single lap. One lap around here is like two laps of Monaco!”

”The visibility is great and you don’t really feel…”

Can Lewis Hamilton get on the podium in Belgium?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Oh yes, he’s back people.

After a disastrous spell in the 2009 F1 season, it definitely looks like defending F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is officially back this season after finishing on the podium in the last two races.

You read it, Lewis Hamilton finished a strong second place last weekend in Belgium after scoring his first win of the season in Hungary. And while he probably won’t catch the front runners for this year’s world title, at least he can finish strong to end what has been a tumultuous 2009 campaign.

”Before the recent upgrades, we’d have been hopeful of getting into the top 10,” remarked Hamilton. ”But now we’re regularly hoping for a win or to finish second, and that’s a big difference and very encouraging.”

lewis_hamilton”We’re definitely strong again, but we’re not fastest. With KERS, we are there or thereabouts, but we still lack two or three tenths (of a second) to the Brawns. Hopefully we can make further changes to our aerodynamic package, so Spa will be an interesting test for us.”

And while he may be riding high with momentum coming to this weekend’s 2009 F1 Belgium Grand Prix, he has already played down expectations ahead of this Sunday’s race.

”I don’t think we’ll be as competitive as we’ve been…”

Michael Schumacher is set to return to F1 in Valencia

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read it, he’s coming back.

With the unfortunate injury to Felipe Massa back in Hungary, Ferrari is left with one driver to finish what has turned out to be a disappointing 2009 F1 season. And since they all know Kimi Raikkonen won’t be able to carry the Italian team by his lonesome, they’re bringing back Michael Schumacher.

Yes, Schumi’s back. Well, at least until Felipe Massa, who is making quite a steady recovery from his horrific Hungarian qualifying accident, finally returns. Massa spent several days in an induced coma on a respirator before leaving for his home country Brazil for a brief check-up.

Michael SchumacherHaving Michael Schumacher take Massa’s place for the time being should be enough to keep Ferrari competitive. And since Schumacher STILL is the seven-time F1 world champion, having him around should bring that fire back with the Italian team.

One guy who NEEDS some fire back is Massa’s and now Schumi’s teammate, Kimi Raikkonen. You see, this guy was suppose to be the heir apparent to Schumacher when they signed him away from McLaren a few years ago.

While he did win the F1 world title two years ago for Ferrari, the guy hasn’t been that competitive since. Some even say that Raikkonen already lost his spot as the premiere driver in Ferrari to Felipe Massa.

Having a multi-time world champion like Schumacher as…

Lewis Hamilton won something this 2009 F1 Season

Monday, July 27th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFINALLY.

With Lewis Hamilton being the defending F1 world champion, losing all those races this 2009 F1 season has really scarred his ego a great deal. He never got a podium finish in the first nine races of the season. Hell, he even went scoreless in the last five races for crying out loud.

It all changed in the 2009 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest where the defending champ finally got his maiden win of the year. Yup, he finally won a race, finishing in front of second place finisher Kimi Raikkonen and third placer, Mark Webber.

Lewis HamiltonHe could care less for Felipe Massa who was in a hospital due to a freak accident during qualifying.

”It is an incredible feeling to be back here after all,” Lewis Hamilton said. ”It feels such a long time away, such a struggle with me and the team but as I said on the in-lap I am so proud of the guys.”

”I go to the factory and see how hard everyone pushing, they never gave up and it is something very rare to see in a large group of people. We didn’t expect to win this weekend. I didn’t feel we had pace to win but the car felt fantastic. It’s incredibly special to…”

Who will win the 2009 F1 German Grand Prix?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Yep, we’ll finally have some ACTUAL racing in Formula One this weekend.

With all the controversies surrounding the sport lately, the 2009 F1 season continues and it will resume at the Nurburgring for the 9th race of the year, the German Grand Prix.

That’s right, the 2009 F1 German Grand Prix is the ninth race of the Formula One season and it will be held on July 12, Sunday. One dude looking forward for this one is current championship points leader Jenson Button who, despite finishing a disappointing 6th in his home grand prix in Britain, is still looking forward to win and extend his 23-point lead over closest rival Rubens Barrichello.

As of this writing, Jenson Button has 64 Jenson Buttonchampionship points. Button’s closest competitor Rubens Barrichello, who happens to be his Brawn GP teammate, has 41 championship points, followed by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull with 39.

Thanks to the remarkable performances of Button and Barrichello, Brawn GP now has a huge 30-point lead in the constructors’ championship with Red Bull Racing in second place. Toyota is 30 points behind the two.

The three former F1 world champions in the field…

Can Brawn GP win again in the 2009 F1 Chinese GP?

Monday, April 13th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, a team called Brawn GP has been dominating F1 lately.

The 2009 F1 season is two races old and Brawn GP has already scored two grand prix victories. It’s amazing how this diffuser technology of theirs is changing the sport eh?

The team formerly known as Honda wants to continue its dominance as they try to win the 2009 F1 Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit. It is one of the newest venues on the Formula 1 calendar. The first Grand Prix held there was in 2004, with victory going to Rubens Barrichello in a Ferrari.

Toyota’s Timo Glock was a serious candidate for victory in the rain shortened Malaysian Brawn GPGP, while BMW Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld stormed through the field to finish second, behind to Jenson Button of Brawn GP.

Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Sebastien Vettel have shown good speed at both rounds of the F1 season so far, and will be hoping to record the team’s first grand prix victory. Nico Rosberg has been dominating practice sessions in his Williams but has yet to convert that pace into race results.

The two big teams in Formula 1, McLaren and Ferrari, are struggling badly. After the first two races, McLaren have a solitary world championship point to show for their efforts while Ferrari has none at all. This will…

Ferrari F1 Driver Felipe Massa called his Ferrari Teammates Stupid after the Fiasco in the Malaysian GP

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Yes, he drives for that team he’s calling stupid.

This just shows the kind of start to the 2009 F1 season Felipe Massa has been having eh? After two races, Felipe Massa, his teammate Kimi Raikkonen and team Ferrari as a whole haven’t scored shit. That’s after winning the constructors’ title and almost winning the drivers’ championship last year.

So what has gone wrong? What has gone wrong for Felipe Massa that he has actually attributed one of the best teams in motor sports with stupidity?

Well, if you saw what happened to Ferrari in the 2009 F1 Malaysian Grand Prix, you’ll understand. You see, everything was setup Felipe Massatowards a dominant Ferrari finish in Sepang, Malaysia. Ferrari has been dominant leading up to the event. The problem is, the team couldn’t say the same when they got to the actual event.

For Massa, his problems started as early as qualifying. His chances of a solid points-finish in Sepang were erased after Ferrari made the mistake of not sending him out again in Q1, believing that the time they put up would be enough to make it through. Massa dropped down the timesheets soon after, landing Massa to 16th from pole position.

On raceday, Ferrari again made another crucial mistake, this time with Kimi Raikkonen. You see, the Malaysian Grand Prix was being threatened by rain all day. And probably…
