Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt was only a matter of time before we did another Duke game.

You read it, the Florida State Seminoles travel to Durham, North Carolina to play its final ACC road game of the season as they slug it out against No.7 Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Which of these two teams can gain an edge before the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament gets here?

The Florida State Seminoles can finish second place in the ACC standings with victories in its final two conference games of the 2008-09 season. Florida State is led by ACC Player of the Year candidate Toney Douglas and ACC Coach of the Year nominee Leonard Hamilton. The Seminoles were picked to finished 10th by the attending media at ACC Operation Basketball in October and enter Tuesday’s game in a tie for third place in the league standings.

Duke Blue DevilsThe Seminoles have won six of their last eight games (all conference match-ups) and enters Tuesday’s game with the Duke Blue Devils carrying an overall record of 22-7, that’s the most regular season wins by Florida State since also winning 22 games prior to post-season play during the 1992-93 season.

Who will win the coming March Madness bracket wars?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgTalk about jumping the gun this year eh?

The new 2008-09 NCAA college basketball season has only begun and here we are giving you our picks on who will win the national championship already. And in case you haven’t guessed, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that our picks ACTUALLY earn you a couple of bucks.

The favorite to win it all this year is the University of North Carolina Tar Heels with 6-1 odds. Unlike many of the other top teams, it appears UNC will not be affected by the mass defections to the NBA back in the offseason.

Forward Tyler Hansbrough (18.4 ppg), guard Wayne Ellington (11.7 ppg) and guard Kansas JayhawksTy Lawson (10.2 ppg) are all returning. And yes, you better watch out for these guys to lead UNC to the top again.

Right behind the Tar Heels are the Memphis Tigers at 8-1. Derrick Rose may have been the first pick in the NBA draft, but that does not mean Memphis will be lacking in talent.

Memphis is still absolutely loaded this season and primed to improve on their Elite Eight stint of last year. Antonio Anderson and Robert Dozier are senior leaders on a team that definitely needs senior leadership. With some young talent waiting to make their mark, the Tigers can make another championship run

Other traditional powers who hope to bring down the favorites, includes UNC’s…

The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China are here

Friday, August 8th, 2008

08-08-08.

That’s right, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games have finally arrived on the eight day of the eight month of the eight year. August 8, 2008, that date was probably marked all around the globe as people from all walks of life marked that date on their calendar for their personal reasons; be it weddings, opening businesses, birth dates, etc., hoping that the date that comes only once in every hundred years, will bring them good luck.

It was only fitting that the Chinese scheduled the Games of the XXIX Olympiad on the said date as well. But will the date bring good luck to the athletes competing for their country too?

2008 Beijing Olympic GamesThey, after all, need all the luck they can get. The Olympics is the biggest event any sports athlete will have in his sporting career and it is understandable if these athletes feel pressured.

U.S. Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps, is one dude who’ll feel the most pressure for sure. He has the opportunity to become the Olympian to win the most gold medals in history both for a single Games and for a career. He has to win eight more gold medals, giving him 14 for his career.

U.S. basketball team head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Kobe Bryant should…

Things to consider before the 2008 March Madness

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis year, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, North Carolina and Duke are forces to be reckoned with come the Final Four.

As the 2008 NCAA college basketball regular season winds down and conference tournaments tip off, North Carolina, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, Kansas, Duke, Stanford, Xavier, Texas and Wisconsin became the top ten teams this year and it looks like there will be no easy picks.

Most of these teams have very long standing traditions specifically in basketball. With this being said then we know how much hard work goes in and out of these schools gyms.

Tyler HansbroughOne of the most impressive players this year comes from Kansas State in the name of Michael Beasley. A player averaging 12.6 Rebounds, 26.7 Points, 1.6 Steals and 1.4 blocks a game who by far has the potential to be dominant in the professional league as well.

Not far behind is Tyler Hansbrough from North Carolina averaging 10.4 rebounds, 1.6 Steals and 23.4 points a contest. Not to shabby on his 2nd year at the helm of the Tar Heels. Being next in voting to J.J. Redick last year for the ACC player of the year has to bring pressure this time around, naturally Tyler is taking it head on.

Another impressive year as usual and kudos to one of the best coaches in basketball history is Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Another year and another team rich in teamwork and fast paced offensive…

Duke is FUCKED heading to the 2008 March Madness

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhat’s going on with Duke lately?

After cruising through the first 23 games of the 2007-08 NCAA college basketball season with a dominant 22-1 record, the Duke Blue Devils hit a rather big speed bump. They lost two straight games, losing their last one to, of all teams, that club from the cesspool in Miami.

Yes people, the Miami Hurricanes, a team that has no business playing on a hardwood and should just stick with pigskin, actually defeated the powerhouse team of the Duke Blue Devils, giving Mike Krzyzewski back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

Duke Blue Devils”Our team, there’s something missing this week,” Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ”We are not the same team these last two ballgames. It’s almost like someone has come in and invaded their bodies.”

Although watching somebody invade Mike Krzyzewski’s body is the last thing I’d like to see, the dude may have a point. In their last two games, Duke is scoring fewer points while allowing 24 more points from the opposition per contest.

Duke’s shooting percentages are also…

North Carolina falls Head over Tar – Heels to Duke

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt’s about time. UNC has been dogging the Devils in their last three meetings that Duke’s win last Wednesday was a breathe of fresh air.

Duke was riding from a three-game losing streak to their hated rivals from North Carolina coming to Wednesday night’s rivalry game, the biggest so far this 2008 NCAA college basketball season.

Greg Paulus scored 18 points, leading six Duke Blue Devils who scored in double digits to help their team pull off the 89-78 win over the No.3 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.

Duke Blue DevilsAfter finally beating their hated rivals again after three unsuccessful attempts, the Duke Blue Devils are certainly looking like the team that fits in with their storied tradition.

”They’re pretty special right now,” Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ”We know who we are. We’re a very unconventional team. We’re not a strong physical team, but we are strong team emotionally, a real together group.”

”You have to hope you don’t get killed by a team for a stretch by…”

Bobby Knight retires from the Texas Tech Red Raiders

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Yep, after we paid tribute (sort of…) to Bobby Knight getting win No.900 in college hoops, he retires from Texas Tech.

What in the world must he be thinking eh? The Red Raiders are hovering around the .500 mark this 2008 NCAA college basketball season, that’s probably why he retired because he must’ve figured out that there’s no way in hell the Red Raiders would be able to survive at March Madness. That is of course, if they make it that far.

And yes, the winningnest basketball coach in college basketball history, that’s Bobby Knight of course, stepped down from Texas Tech. All of a sudden, I’m already starting to miss the foul-mouth, chair-tossing old fart.

Bobby KnightBob Knight’s son, Pat Knight, will take over as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. That’s right people, all you Red Raiders fans can already say good bye to any of your 2008 March Madness aspirations.

During Bob Knight’s career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, he was 138-82 overall, leading the school to the March Madness bracket tournament in four of his six seasons.

Bobby Knight is also one of six men who…

Can Team U.S.A. win 2007 FIBA Americas Tournament?

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

If you’re a fan of the fabled U.S.A. Dream Team of Michael Jordan and company, then you must just be puking every time you see these guys.

Sorry guys for the somewhat short break from our own little page the past few days. All of us passed out from drinking waaay too much booze. Well, we’re back now (if you haven’t noticed yet…) and unfortunately for you, you’re still reading this shit.

Yep, the domination of the United States of America in international basketball competitions such as the 2007 FIBA Americas tournament is now long gone since these American basketball ‘’superstars” dwyane_wade2.jpgstarted to figure they’d rather get their ass screwed while getting paid on an NBA basketball court than represent their home country against some country like Argentina.

That is, sad to say, what Team U.S.A. has become. Hell, we couldn’t even call these guys the ”Dream Team” anymore since it’s no dream of anyone to finish third, fourth or fifth. With that said, let’s take a quick look at the Americans’ chances of winning this international tournament for a change. Oh yeah, we’ll look at other country’s chances too.

Team Argentina. Yep, these guys are the current kings of…

League bans Gilbert Arenas from betting on NBA games

Friday, March 30th, 2007

seth-edward-oneal.jpgGuess what, the NBA found another way to ban another one of their players from something.

After furiously giving Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant all those suspensions, the NBA found another victim and this time, it’s Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas, banning the guy from, get this… betting on NBA games.

Well, not exactly, it turns out, what the NBA didn’t like was the fact that Gilbert Arenas, being the cocky sonuvabitch that he is, made a stupid $10 bet with a fan that he will make the game’s winning basket when they were playing the Portland Trailblazers.

gilbert_arenas1.jpgDuring that game’s pregame introductions, Gilbert Arenas was booed by the entire Rose Garden crowd in Portland, Oregon. Of course, after making a couple of comments that you hate the Blazers head coach Nate McMillan’s guts, what do you expect?

The Washington Wizards superstar hates all of the US basketball team coaches after cutting him from the roster. He has been on a hunt ever since. Hell, the guy even wants to play against Duke and show Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski the mistake that cost team USA yet another tournament debacle.

Mike Krzyzewski was the head coach of the US national basketball team.

Gilbert Arenas made the bets as he bantered with fans throughout the Wizards’ 100-98 loss. He was booed during pregame introductions and whenever he touched the ball because he had promised to score 50 points against the…

The Duke Blue Devils gaining on the North Carolina Tar Heels coming to the March Madness wars

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

Yep, and all this at the expense of the Boston College Eagles.

Apparently, the then struggling Duke Blue Devils all of a sudden has caught fire after their 78-70 win over the Boston College Eagles a few days ago. And to make matters more interesting, the once invincible North Carolina Tar Heels are slumping… (NOOO!)

Josh McRoberts, refusing to let his Blue Devils fade away in to the sunset with the March Madness wars just a few more weeks away, came up with a solid double-double performance of 18 points and 11 rebounds to help his team avoid its first five-game losing streak ever in the era of head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

”It’s a big win for us. It’s a huge win,” said Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski, grinning. ”We’re young. We’re getting better. We just have to keep fighting.”

Playing their first game after dropping out of the Top 25 for the first time in nearly 11 years, Duke pressured the Boston College Eagles guards from the start and used an efficient halfcourt offense that led to a number of layups and dunks in beating the no.1 team in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

”I was confident,” McRoberts said. ”It wasn’t like ‘we’ve lost four straight so we’re going to lose this one.”’

And just when you thought the Boston College Eagles had enough, they will face the North Carolina Tar Heels, a team determined to…
