The final leg of the Triple Crown will be on June 5th.
But unfortunately, there will be no rematch between Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and Preakness winner Lookin At Lucky as the connections of both have decided to pass up on the 2010 Belmont Stakes this Saturday.
While a few veterans of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness will be there, it looks like there will be lots of new shooters to fill out the field.
Here is the list of the top contenders for the 2010 Belmont Stakes:
Ice Box – Trained by infamous Nick Zito, Ice Box broke his maiden in October at the Meadowlands, and then followed that up with an allowance win at Gulfstream in January. He made his stakes debut in the Fountain of Youth (G2) on February 20, finishing 5th beaten 12 lengths. He came back to win the Florida Derby (G1) on March 20. Finished a fast-closing second in the Kentucky Derby beaten 2 1/2 lengths.
First Dude – After finishing 2nd in his first two starts, he finally broke his maiden in January at Gulfstream. Then he followed that with an allowance win also at Gulfstream, then finished third in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. He set the pace in the Preakness, finishing second beaten just 3/4 length by Lookin at Lucky.
Fly Down – Another Nick Zito trained horse, he won an allowance at Gulfstream in February, followed by a 9th place finish in the Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds on March 27. He came back next to win the Dwyer Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park on May 9, earning a career-best 99 Beyer.
Stately Victor – After breaking his maiden at Saratoga…

It’s time once again to bet on huge piles of horseshit.
The 2008 Preakness Stakes is set this Saturday, May 17 at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland as horse bettors from around the world can now look at the odds on whose going to win the $1 million purse.
The second and shortest leg of the 2008 Triple Crown trail, this year’s Preakness Stakes could be the start of a historic feat for the Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown.
If Big Brown wins the Preakness Stakes, he’ll only be needing one more win at the Belmont Stakes to be crowned the first Triple Crown series champion for quite a while.
Horse bettors can also look at other contenders who will be competing for the Preakness Stakes title. Behindatthebar, trained by Todd Pletcher and is coming from the Padua Stables, is the Lexington Stakes winner and has never been worse than second in four starts on synthetic surfaces.
Giant Moon, who is owned by Albert Fried, Jr., was the Count Fleet winner and has finished…

Big Brown should be the heavy favorite to win the Preakness Stakes.
And in case you have no idea who Big Brown is, the last time we saw the colt, he was accelerating for the lead at the top of the stretch and was never challenged while putting away the rest of the field with an explosive finishing kick under jockey Kent Desormeaux to win the 2008 Kentucky Derby.
”He’ll go to the Preakness as one of the most overwhelming favorites,” trainer Nick Zito, whose Derby horses finished seventh and 15th respectively, said of his horse’s chances at the 2008 Preakness Stakes. ”You can’t say enough good things. He was tremendous.”
Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. was overwhelmed by 48 text messages and 29 voice mails, congratulating him on his first Derby victory. Big Brown is now a perfect 4-0 in his brief career, winning by a total of 33 3/4 lengths.
However, Rick Dutrow Jr. still remain cautious in assessing his colt’s potential sweep of the Derby, Preakness and Belmont, giving horse racing its first Triple Crown winner in 30 years. STILL, one can’t help but to root for Big Brown to capture the 2008 Triple Crown series title. It’s been 30 looong years after all.
Eight rested horses will likely await Big Brown in…

Because that will give you an idea how horses from, say, the Todd Pletcher stable will perform compared to the stable of, say, John Wayne.
Choosing the right stable coming to the 2008 Kentucky Derby demands stern attention to detail. Here are some betting tips that could help you strengthen your decision in picking the correct stable that will help you win big bucks.
FIRST, pick a trainer who has several talented 2008 Triple Crown series champ nominees.
Right now, trainers Nick Zito,
Steve Asmussen, Bill Mott, Bob Baffert, and Todd Pletcher seem to be holding the strongest hands with each barn containing several top contenders and a few sleepers as well. These trainers are sure to rack up points on the Derby Trail with a bevy of talented 3-year-olds at their disposal.
Trainer Nick Zito has two horses that will be running for the 2008 Kentucky Derby, Cool Coal Man and Anak Nakal. Cool Coal Man won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes off of…

Let’s take a break from all these basketball conversations and talk about horse racing for a change.
The Grade 1, $1 million 2008 Florida Derby Race at Gulfstream Park will run on March 29, 2008 featuring the top three-year-old thoroughbreds of the country. A preparatory race for the coming 2008 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 3, this should tell ya’ll who you should bet on once the Triple Crown series begins this year.
Colts came out of their races doing quite well with the likes of Big Brown. Big Brown, the undefeated and as yet unchallenged three-year-old sensation who took South Florida by storm after cruising to a 12 ¾ length allowance victory at Gulfstream Park is all set to win the $1 million purse back there.
Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr, who trains Big Brown for the IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr., said ”we got to thinking and drinking last night and by the time we were done, we decided the 2008 Florida Derby Race at Gulfstream Park would be the best option.”
Veteran jockey Kent Desormeaux will ride Big Brown for the Florida Derby, even though Desormeaux has been scheduled to ride on the Dubai World Cup card that same day.
Also in the race is Bea Oxenberg’s three-year-old Hey Byrn, who reaffirmed his credentials as a potential Kentucky Derby (G1) contender at Gulfstream Park when he drew off to win a…

Because hey, these horses, as great as their owners say they are, still have to poo right?
And yeah, the 2007 Belmont Stakes is this Saturday as SEVEN of the top horses of the nation will meet at Belmont Park in New York to decide the final leg of this year’s race for the Triple Crown.
First, we have Imawildandcrazyguy at post position no.1. Trained by William Kaplan, Imawildandcrazyguy will be ridden by Mark Guidry as they look for a photo finish to end the 2007 Triple Crown series. The only problem for Imawildandcrazyguy is, his owner REALLY is a wild and crazy guy for getting his horse compete with the big boys THIS EARLY. The horse had only two wins of 12 lifetime starts, with his only victories
coming last year in maiden and allowance events at Calder. The horse just kept on losing since his wild and crazy owner stepped into tougher competition.
Tiago will come from post position no.2 and yeah, he’s still a 100-1 longshot despite being the little brother of Giacomo. Tiago is simply not good enough. Yeah sure, he won the Santa Anita Derby but puh-lease, the horse was competing with a weaker field then. That was apparent when the horse lost to a grand total of six horses at the 2007 Kentucky Derby.
At post position no.3, we have the heavy favorite Curlin. Yeah sure, Curlin’s…

We think Saturday’s Travers Stakes from Saratoga features one of the most obvious bad-bet favorites in recent memory with Bellamy Road chalked up at 2/1. Yesterday we told you to take a look at Flower Alley instead, and we’ll all get rich and retire to the Cayman Islands together. Just to give you [...]

In a previous post, we had encouraged you to to stay away from betting the big televised stakes races, especially if there was a name-brand super horse in the mix. Forget everything we told you. Saturday’s Saratoga card features the Travers Stakes, and George Steinbrenner’s Bellamy Road has been named the Morning Line favorite at 2/1. We don’t care how skinny the payout might be, we want you to beat Steinbrenner. After the jump, we’re going to tell you exactly what you need to do to beat Bellamy Road at the windows this Saturday… STAKES IS HIGH The Travers Stakes is going to be a hotly contested race at Saratoga Saturday, and you need to be smarter than the crowd to show a profit after these horses cross the finish line.

Saturday at Saratoga features the $1M Travers Stakes, and the return of George Steinbrenner’s horse Bellamy Road from an injury. Trainer Nick Zito thinks he’s got the colt ready off a 112 day layoff:
“I know one thing, I have to ask Bellamy Road to do me a favor because it is a big, big [...]

There’s plenty of speculation about the Preakness this weekend, but it appears that NOBODY is handing this race over to any horse outright after the Derby debacle. After Giacomo and Closing Argument backdoor humped so many, even the most ardent Horseymen are staying a little conservative when it comes to picking a winner. Still most [...]
