Trouble between the Patriots and Tom Brady?

Monday, July 19th, 2010

For the sake of the sports fans in Boston, let’s hope not.

There seems to be a problem in the contract negotiations between the New England Patriots and superstar QB Tom Brady coming to the 2010 NFL football season.

Yep, rumors say that there is a growing sense of disconnection between the New England Patriots and Tom Brady’s representatives as the sides try to strike out a deal to keep the three-time Super Bowl winner in New England.

The deal Tom Brady has, like that of four-time MVP and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, is set to expire at the end of the 2010 season. He declined comment for the story, but the reports said that there has not been substantial talks between the sides on a new contract.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft said last week that the team want Brady “to be our quarterback for a long time into the future.” He had said in March that Patriots would not allow Brady to leave via free agency.

But after watching LeBron James betray the city of Cleveland on national TV, nothing is really certain until the guy in question signs on that dotted line.

Brady’s current deal was worth $60 million when he signed it in 2005. A new deal would likely thrust him into the stratosphere of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

But the negotiations for Manning’s contract with the Colts and…

Key Additions NFL Teams made for the coming season

Monday, June 28th, 2010

And mind you, there are quite a few.

The 2010 NFL football season draws near and that means some NFL teams have began tweaking their rosters here and there to find that combination that they hope will win them the Super Bowl.

First we have the New York Giants. They announced that they signed Jim Sorgi to a one-year deal. Contract terms were not disclosed. He will be backing up Eli Manning after doing the same job for six years working with his brother Peyton.

Sorgi will compete with second-year man Rhett Bomar for the Giants’ backup quarterback job. The 6-foot-5, 196-pound quarterback was the Colts’ sixth-round draft choice in 2004.

He has appeared in 16 NFL games, completing 99 of 156 pass attempts for 929 yards, with six touchdowns and one interception. He played in only one game in 2009, and was placed on injured reserve in December with shoulder tendinitis.

Next, the Minnesota Vikings signed kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd and re-signed cornerback Benny Sapp. Lloyd handled kickoffs for the Carolina Panthers the past two seasons, leading the NFL with 30 touchbacks in 2008. He had 21 touchbacks last year, tied for fourth-most in the league.

Ryan Longwell remains the regular kicker for…

Can Peyton Manning still be considered the best QB to ever play football if he doesn’t win another Super Bowl?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

We sure heard a lot of these before and during Super Bowl XLIV.

And since we all now know that Peyton Manning missed out on winning his second Super Bowl title after his Colts lost to the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV to the score of 31-17, we’re asking again. Can Peyton Manning still be considered as the best quarterback to ever play football if he doesn’t win another Super Bowl?

You bet. Peyton Manning can still be considered as the best quarterback to ever play football because nobody has consistently won games better than he did the last few years. Sure, his crucial mistake late in Super Bowl XLIV cost him his second ring but that won’t take away the things he has already accomplished in his fantastic 12-year career in the NFL.

Heck, this is the guy who led the Indianapolis Colts to become the only team in NFL history to reach the playoffs ten times in the last 11 years. Absolutely nothing can take that away from him.

Manning was drafted by the Colts as the 1st overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. He has spent all 12 years of his career with the Colts and is well on his way to compiling one of the best careers in NFL history.

Manning has already won three NFL MVP awards, tying Otto Graham, Brett Favre, Jim Brown, John Unitas, and Randall Cunningham for most all time. He has been selected to seven Pro Bowls, won a Super Bowl in 2007, and has been named Super Bowl MVP. Through the 2006 season Manning has thrown for…

Colts or Saints? Who’ll you pick to win Super Bowl XLIV?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Are you ready for the big game?

In case you’ve been living under a rock lately, the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints will collide this Sunday in Miami, Florida where we’ll see which of these two teams will be crowned the Super Bowl XLIV champions.

Who will take the big one? Let’s look at the Indianapolis Colts, who have already recorded their most single-season wins in franchise history with 16. The quest will be a second Super Bowl title in a four-year span and since they’ll be playing in their fourth Super Bowl appearance in Miami, it seems the stage is set for the Colts to win their second Super Bowl title.

You see the last time Peyton Manning and his Colts were in Miami playing for the Super Bowl, they defeated the Chicago Bears 20-17. Manning was also the league MVP that season, the same as he is now coming to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, Florida.

That’s why the Colts should take this one easy.

Sure, the New Orleans Saints are as good as the Colts this season with both teams flirting with perfection all year to post the best win-loss record of their respective conferences. Both the Colts and the Saints also have Pro Bowl quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Drew Brees respectively. That’s probably why Super Bowl XLIV will prove to be a high scoring affair.

However, while Drew Brees have become one of the most explosive quarterbacks to…

Can Saints end Dream Season with Super Bowl Title?

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Let me just get this out of the way, if the Saints win the Super Bowl, then the celebration that’ll come after will be bigger than Mardi Gras.

And since Super Bowl XLIV will be their first ever trip to the Super Bowl for the New Orleans Saints, anything they celebrate from this point forward will be nothing compared to the way this city will celebrate if the Saints win the big game.

In case you didn’t get that, the New Orleans Saints are going to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. Hosting their first NFC championship game, the Saints defeated the Minnesota Vikings 31-28 to earn a trip to Miami.

They will play the Indianapolis Colts, a team that has a knack for playing and winning Super Bowl championships in Miami. Of course, for a city that has been able to overcome adversity, don’t expect the Colts’ history in Miami faze these Saints fans one bit.

Especially Drew Brees.

”Four years ago, they were hosing this roof,” as Saints coach Sean Payton put it, referring to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. ”This is pretty special for this city.”

The Saints went 20 years before they had their first…

Bet on who will be the Super Bowl XLIV MVP this Sunday

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Peyton Manning, Pierre Garcon, Drew Brees and Reggie Bush, these guys are probably your prime candidates to win Super Bowl MVP this Sunday.

EA Sports and John Madden looked into their crystal ball and did all bettors a favor by letting them know not only the outcome of Super Bowl XLIV, but the simulated video game they ran also pegged the MVP.

I feel sorry for all of those who already bet on someone other than Drew Brees, as it was none other than the New Orleans Saints quarterback who won the award in the simulated Super Bowl in Madden NFL 10.

Online sportsbooks like SPORTSBETTING.com have had the Super Bowl MVP prop betting option up for over a week now. It is always one of the more popular options for the sports betting public. And with the big game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints just around the corner, this is probably your last chance to make your pick.

Madden NFL 10’s Super Bowl MVP, Drew Brees, is currently the second most popular option with bettors, sitting right behind, as you might expect, Peyton Manning. Sportsbooks are currently reporting Manning with 34 percent of all the MVP betting action.

When it comes to MVP betting, QBs are usually a decent choice…

Heeeeeeeeerrre’s More Super Bowl XLIV Betting Odds

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

This time, courtesy of our guys from SPORTSBETTING.com. Don’t you love how these sportsbooks milk the Super Bowl as much as they can?

As many of you know, you can practically bet on anything associated with Super Bowl XLIV this Sunday, starting well before the official kick-off (time of the national anthem, coin toss, etc.) right to the final seconds of the broadcast (who the winning coach will congratulate first, e.g: God, family, players, etc.). That’s four hours full of betting options for the sports betting public. It’s also a time when you will find great bonus offers and promotions from books. SPORTSBETTING.com for one, is currently offering a 125 percent sign-up bonus, plus they are running a 20 percent daily re-load bonus special this week.

Betting on different Super Bowl propositions is as much a part of the game as finding a good place to watch the action. Even the most seasoned bettors like to get in on the fun. But before throwing darts at one of the hundreds available from bookmakers, it’s a good idea for bettors to have a gameplan.

Which team has the better chance to win straight-up? The online sportsbooks currently have the line ranging from the Indianapolis Colts -5 to the -6. The line was creeping up until news of Dwight Freeney’s ankle. Is an injury to a key defensive player enough to change the outcome of this game? Perhaps.

How about the Over/Under? The betting total of 56.5 is already the highest in Super Bowl history. Don’t look for that number to come down, as the betting public continues to put their money on the ”Over” (SPORTSBETTING.com is reporting 75 percent of all the action on the Over so far). With Peyton Manning and Drew Brees in the game I’d be shocked to see anything but that ”Over” betting trend continue.

Let’s have a look at a few props to consider when betting on Super Bowl XLIV

Super Bowl XLIV Betting Propositions from Bodog

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

What, you thought those guys will just let the big game this Sunday slip by without getting a piece of the betting public?

Just in case you didn’t know, Super Bowl XLIV is this Sunday in Miami, Florida where the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints play for all the marbles. It’s Peyton Manning going up against Drew Brees, Manning’s legacy against the city of New Orleans. If you’re not pumped up about that, then you’re probably one of two things; you don’t like sports or you’re just too enamored with Manny Pacquiao that you stick your head up his ass, talk about everything he does 24/7 and call it a sport.

As for the rest of us who do love sports, more specifically football, the Super Bowl match-up between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints should be one heckuva’ game. Hell, the conference championship games both teams played on a couple of weeks ago was one of the highest rated football games on TV already. Super Bowl XLIV should be off the chain.

Of course, before the Indianapolis Colts take on the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV, sportsbooks across the country have begun to post all kinds of betting options for you to bet on and our guys from Bodog are no different.

One of which has odds on the Super Bowl commercial that will feature Tim Tebow and his family. The 30-second commercial produced and paid for by Christian group Focus on the Family features the now former Florida Gators quarterback and…

Can the Colts win another Super Bowl title in Miami?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWell, these guys already played for FOUR Super Bowl titles in Miami, winning two with the last one against the Bears three years ago.

To say that the Indianapolis Colts will have some sort of homecourt advantage in Super Bowl XLIV is a HUGE understatement. The New Orleans Saints may have the emotional drive going for them but when it comes to playing for the Super Bowl, in Miami, it seems you just can’t go wrong with the Colts.

And in case you didn’t get that, yes, the 16-2 Indianapolis Colts, who won their second AFC championship in four seasons, will play the 15-3 New Orleans Saints for the Super Bowl at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Miami, of course, is old hat for the Colts. All four of their Super Bowl appearances, including their two wins, have taken place in South Florida. And it seems kinda’ strange that the Colts found a way to return to the Super Bowl to play the New Orleans Saints at the same time the league decided to return to Miami for the big game.

The Colts advanced to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, their second of the Indianapolis era, by rallying from an 11-point first-half deficit against the New York Jets.

Quarterback Peyton Manning was simply phenomenal as he completed…

SPORTSBETTING.com has Betting Props for Super Bowl XLIV (You thought betting on the game was enough?)

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

It’s that time of the year when bettors go ga-ga over one huge football game, betting on everything from coin tosses to who among the Colts will wear panties.

Well, maybe not that last one. (I hope…) Seriously, Super Bowl XLIV should once again generate all kinds of betting propositions since this is only the biggest sporting event of the year other than the World Cup and it will be the last time we’ll ever get to enjoy football until we hit August again later this year.

Get ready, because here they come again, Super Bowl prop bets. Every year, a part of the media coverage around the big game focuses on the astounding number of proposition betting options that online sportsbooks roll out.

These prop bets range from the obvious (correct score of the game) to the unique (the Over/Under on the length of the national anthem). Over the next week and a half, we’ll look at some of the Super Bowl prop betting options offered and where the betting public are putting their money.

On that note, SPORTSBETTING.com has hundreds and hundreds of props listed and some of the most innovative options you’ll find anywhere.

Let’s get the popular coin toss one out of the way at the start here. The prop bet ”will the opening coin toss be heads or tails?” is currently listed at -115 for both options (I don’t really see this line moving due to heavy one-sided action…)

The Total for the Super Bowl is at 56 and of course there are…
