The Kansas City Chiefs release Larry Johnson (The dude probably won’t be posting anything on Twitter now…)

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

People from Kansas City saw this one coming a mile away.

To say that the Kansas City Chiefs are having a campaign to forget this 2009 NFL football season could be an understatement. After earning their first win of the season when they beat the Washington Redskins two weeks ago, they are once again losing games. These guys are currently on a two-game losing skid and I don’t see anything that could change the Chiefs’ fortunes for the immediate future.

Of course, that won’t stop the Kansas City Chiefs from making some moves. And they may have made the biggest one yet. You see, the Chiefs have finally let franchise running back Larry Johnson go and for the first time in the Pro Bowler’s career, he’s no longer welcome in Kansas.

larry_johnsonAfter seven years playing in Kansas City, Larry Johnson was finally released by the Chiefs on the same day that he was due back from his second suspension in the past 12 months. Is this just a matter of the Chiefs getting rid of excess baggage or is Kansas City letting go of a solid running back who still has a few good years left in him?

The rest of the NFL thinks the latter.

Teams like the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans have already expressed their desire of signing a player of Johnson’s caliber as soon as they learned that the Chiefs have finally released him. Will we see a deal…

Will Larry Johnson sign with the Kansas City Chiefs?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAs of press time, RB Larry Johnson is still on strike while Priest Holmes is slowly earning his spot back in the Chiefs’ depth chart.

Yep, that is the drama going on right now as far as the Kansas City Chiefs are concerned coming to the brand new 2007-08 NFL football season. Yeah sure, if Priest Holmes does stay healthy and become even half the running back he once was, the Chiefs will be fine.

Of course, having both Holmes AND Larry Johnson will be even better for any NFL football team and Johnson’s contract may very well be the difference for the Kansas City Chiefs if they want to win Super Bowl XLII in Glendale.

Larry Johnson has not larry_johnson.jpgbeen attending camp since he asked for an extension to the seven-year contract he signed with the Chiefs back in 2003. This is the same contract he can void down to a five-year deal after the final game of the 2007-08 NFL football season with his playing time incentives.

Apparently, LJ thinks he’s as good as LT, LaDainian Tomlinson, and he’s expecting the Kansas City Chiefs to pay him as much as the San Diego Chargers are paying LT. That’s compensation in the range of $28 million guaranteed.

Somebody tell this guy that until he…

A comeback for Priest Holmes in 2007-08 NFL Season?

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Yep, you read it, Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes wants to play football again.

The last time people saw or even heard about Priest Holmes, the Kansas City Chiefs running back was sitting at the bleachers of some football game in San Antonio, Texas, signing some autographs while sounding like he’s done with football for good.

Now, we see Priest Holmes running around an empty practice field, trying to make what he’s calling the biggest comeback of an injury-riddled career. Obviously, Mr. Holmes hasn’t heard about Grant Hill but hey, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

”Anyone who knows anything about me, revelations and signs and believing in Christ, those are definitely some things I believe in,” Priest Holmes said. ”I don’t know why I had the dream. But I saw myself playing football.”

”After the dream, of course, comes the self doubts. ‘You’re too old. You can’t do this. You’ve been off 22 months.’ But I can tell you that whenever you have a vision and a purpose in mind and you can set an actual target, anything can be accomplished.”

Yep, coming back from injuries sure is not something new to Priest Holmes. The guy came back from knee and hip injuries to break Kansas City Chiefs records for career rushing yards, rushing for 5,933 and total touchdowns after slapping 83 footballs in the endzone.

”I’m sure it’s the love of the…”

Chopping Lines: Skins About to Get Dicked

Friday, October 14th, 2005

VERMEIL.jpgSunday, 4:15 p.m. Washington Redskins (3-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) Best Line: KC -5.5, WAS +6 The Washington Redskins have overachieved all year in the eyes of many football experts and everybody’s just waiting for Mark Brunell’s arm to come off or Dan Snyder to start lurking too close to Joe Gibbs. Last week we saw that if the Redskins are given enough points–even at Denver–they’ll cover. Yet, we think the first squeaky wheel comes off this week at Kansas City. Arrowhead is no picnic to play in either and as good as the Washington defense has been, we do think a Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson pounding will be enough to end the Redskin’s dream of a playoff year.

Fantasy Football: Ah! Scott Engel! Yaggh!

Monday, September 12th, 2005

We know most of you are too terrified of ESPN fantasy football writer Scott Engel’s strange looking headshot to even click on his weekly roundup, but luckily for us, we’re brave enough to do so. (We spent the weekend practicing clicking on the page and then prying our eyes away from the photo just so [...]

Fantasy Football: Yahoo’s Mike Harmon Smoking Boat

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

PEYTONFANT.jpgYahoo’s fantasy football Masta P, Mike Harmon gets all nuh-nah-nuh-nah with a batch of letters from anxious pre-draft fantasy owners with jittery questions about their picks–Priest? Ladainian? Aaron Stecker?–and Harmon shows that he’s still feeling the residual effects of massive drug use by recommending to one reader that the Kansas City Chiefs’ Priest Holmes is a better top 5 pick than Indianapolis Colts automatic 40-touchdown quarterback Peyton Manning. Honestly, we can’t stress this enough: IF YOU HAVE THE NUMBER 2 PICK IN THE DRAFT AND CAN’T GET LADAINIAN TOMLINSON PICK PEYTON MANNING. Mike’s Mailbag: Priest or Peyton? [Yahoo Sports]
