Can Ravens take down Peyton Manning and the Colts?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

After they took down Tom Brady and the mighty Patriots last weekend, you can no longer question what these guys can do anymore.

The 2010 NFL playoffs continue with a huge AFC divisional playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Indianapolis Colts. The Ravens are fresh from eliminating NFL Comeback Player of the Year Tom Brady and his Patriots, this time they are looking to take out the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year Peyton Manning and his Indianapolis Colts.

A tall order? I’d definitely say so. I mean, Peyton Manning just won his fourth league MVP trophy, his second in a row. And as long as Manning is leading the offense, the Colts can score with the best in the league. But if there’s a team that can come up with an upset win at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, it’s the Ravens.

Fresh from their 33-14 win over the New England Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens offense will once again rely on their running game led by their three-headed monster of Ray Rice, Willis McGahee and Le’Ron McClain.

Rice had a huge game last week with 159 yards and two touchdowns on 22 rushing attempts against the Patriots. The Ravens are hoping for the same against the Indianapolis Colts this weekend. Rice…

Can Ravens prey on the limping New England Patriots?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWild card weekend continues this Sunday.

That’s right, the 2010 NFL playoffs continue this Sunday with a huge AFC wild card round match between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. In case you didn’t know, the Patriots lost Wes Welker for the playoffs last week, setting the stage for the Ravens D to take advantage.

This playoff matchup between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens is the only playoff game that won’t be a rematch of last week as the Jets and the Bengals, the Eagles and the Cowboys and the Packers and the Cardinals have all played each other last Sunday heading to their wild card matchup.

The first meeting between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens back in Week 4 was as exciting as ever as the Patriots barely edged Baltimore, 27-21. That game left both teams at 3-1 and provided an exciting quarterback battle that might have gone the other way had Derrick Mason not dropped a pass that would have led to a fourth-down conversion.

Joe Flacco threw for 264 yards, but needed nearly 50 completions to get there, numbers indicative of Baltimore’s mark of 7.1 yards per completion. Ray Rice eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground in just 11 carries, a number that helped bolster an impressive rushing mark of nearly five yards per carry.

The Ravens will likely have to use that ground game against…

Can Ravens beat the Packers on Monday Night Football?

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Why are we asking? Because the last few trips the Ravens made to the NFC North, they haven’t been good ones.

The Baltimore Ravens have struggled when facing teams from the NFC North, especially playing against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. And since that’s where these Ravens are going to be this Sunday when we conclude Week 13 of the 2009 NFL football season, the Ravens know exactly what they have to deal with at Lambeau.

”You know what comes with Lambeau Field,” Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said. ”You know the history behind it.” However, it seems the Ravens have had their problems with other NFC North stadiums as well. In the 14 years that the Ravens have been in the NFL, they have never EVER won in Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota or Detroit, losing all of the six games the Ravens have played in those stadiums.

ray_lewisAnd since they have a young Aaron Rodgers who just went for three touchdowns and 348 yards to lead the Green Bay Packers pound the Lions last week on Thanksgiving, I’m definitely not liking the Ravens’ chances this Monday.

To say that the Baltimore Ravens hate playing in the NFC North could be an understatement.

You see, the Ravens have always been humiliated every single time they make the trip north. They lost to the Lions in a penalty-filled game once. They also let then Bears running back James Allen look like Walter Payton the way he ran the ball against the Ravens defense. They let then Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre rip them apart in Green Bay after a…

2009 NFL Football Season Week 13 Betting Picks

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

This week, we’ll go across the border, in Canada.

Because Week 13 of the 2009 NFL football season will kick off in Toronto where the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills will renew their AFC East rivalry on Thursday Night Football.

That’s right, the Buffalo Bills, trying to reach out to fans across Lake Ontario, is scheduled to play a total of five contests in Toronto, one per season through 2012. Unfortunately, the experiment did not begin well last year, with many in attendance supporting the opposing team in the Bills’ 16-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins on December 7.

On the verge of four straight losing seasons with a 3-7 mark, the Bills gave their home fans reason to smile with a 31-14 win over Miami last Sunday.

terrell_owensAfter averaging 12.3 points in the previous eight games, Buffalo broke out with 24 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including a 51-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Terrell Owens, the second time the duo hooked up for a lengthy score in the last two weeks.

As far as the New York Jets are concerned, rookie Mark Sanchez will look to bounce back on Thursday as he has continued to struggle, tossing only two touchdowns against seven interceptions in the last three games. Sanchez was 13 of 17 for 154 yards and just one interception Sunday, enabling the defense to carry the Jets to a 17-6 victory over Carolina to snap a three-game losing streak.

Will that be enough to beat the Bills? We’re giving…

Ravens take on the Browns on Monday Night Football

Monday, November 16th, 2009

And since the Ravens are in dire need of a kickboard to get their season going again, facing the struggling Browns couldn’t have come at a better time.

Week 10 of the 2009 NFL football season concludes at the Dawg Pound in Cleveland Browns Stadium where the Ravens will look to improve on what has been a disappointing 4-4 mark. Thankfully, at 1-7, the Browns don’t have anything going for them and the Ravens should be able to take care of this one and get back in the race in the AFC North.

To say that the Baltimore Ravens are struggling could be an understatement. In their last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Ravens were anemic, especially on what was usually a solid offense led by second-year quarterback Joe Flacco.

ray_lewisAgainst Cincinnati, Joe Flacco struggled. He gave up two interceptions in 18 for 32 passing for just 195 yards. Wide receiver Derrick Mason was also a disappointment, catching only three passes of the 13 balls Flacco threw at his direction.

Will these guys struggle again against the Cleveland Browns defense? Luckily, the Ravens absolutely hate the Browns and for some reason, these guys always come up with their A-game when facing their…

2009 NFL Football Season Week 10 Betting Picks

Friday, November 13th, 2009

It’s Week 10 people.

You read it, Week 10 of the 2009 NFL football season continues this Sunday with a huge lineup of games that will surely make or break one’s weekend. (Depending on who ya’ll are betting on of course…)

And while we all go ga-ga over the Pats – Colts matchup this Sunday night, there are still some huge games on this Sunday’s schedule that you shouldn’t dare miss. And since teams are starting to make that one last gasp for a playoff spot, we can expect some very very competitive games starting this Sunday all the way to the Super Bowl.

We’ll start off with this matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. The Packers will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss to the once winlesstom_brady Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Packers have dropped their last two games, sending them to a 4-4 mark. They desperately need a win when the Cowboys visit them at Lambeau.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked six times for the second consecutive game last Sunday against the Bucs. Rodgers has absorbed a league-worst 37 sacks this year. Perhaps what’s even more unsettling is the way they virtually gave the game away to Tapa Bay.

Green Bay allowed a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown and gave up an 83-yard kickoff return to Clifton Smith to set up the first of Tampa Bay’s three touchdowns in its fourth-quarter comeback. This is after the Packers surrendered…

Can Brett Favre lead the Vikings over the Steelers?

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

No.4 should be one of the prime candidates to win league MVP this season.

But this Sunday, getting another win and staying undefeated is the only thing Brett Favre and the Vikings are concerned about as Week 8 of the 2009 NFL football season continues. Can the impressive 6-0 Vikings stay on top of the NFC?

The Minnesota Vikings look to remain undefeated as they visit the defending champions Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. This is clearly a huge test for Brett Favre as he takes on Troy Polamalu and that impressive Steelers secondary.

The immortal Brett Favre, who is who brett_favreis 6-0 for the first time in his career after last week’s 33-31 win over Baltimore, aims to join Dieter Brock (1985 Rams) as the only two quarterbacks since the merger to win their first seven starts to start a season with a new team.

Last week, Favre threw a 58-yard pass to wide receiver Sidney Rice, who finished with a career-high 176 yards, late in the fourth quarter to set up Ryan Longwell’s field goal for the 33-31 lead. The Ravens almost stole this one with a late field goal but thanks to Favre’s magic, Ravens kicker…

Baltimore Ravens D to keep the Browns miserable

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

It has been all about defense last week.

Defense was at full display last week and if you don’t believe me, just ask Darren Sproles who ran into a brick wall named Ray Lewis last Sunday.

Yep, that was just nasty. And with the Jets D neutralizing Tom Brady before the Giants D picked off Tony Romo thrice, betting on the under will probably be a good idea once the 2009 NFL football season resumes this Sunday for Week 3.

And speaking of defense, Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens will once again be flexing their muscles, only this time, they’ll be at home hosting what is usually an anemic Cleveland Browns offense.

ray_lewisThe Cleveland Browns are still winless this season, losing their first two games in which they have been outscored 24-7 and 17-0, respectively in the second half. To make matters worse, the Browns defense didn’t do any better as they were steamrolled by the opposition’s running game.

And as far as the running game is concerned, the Baltimore Ravens found a new scoring machine in Willis McGahee last Sunday against the Chargers when he gave the Ravens their first two touchdowns in a 31-26 victory over San Diego.

That’s before the Ravens iced the game with a monstrous defensive stop that saw Chargers running back Darren Sproles stopped cold by Ray Lewis behind the…

Can the moves made during the 2009 NFL Free Agency Period change the Road to Super Bowl XLIV?

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Of course, the next Super Bowl is still a LOOONG way from here.

But with the big wave of NFL free agency behind us, let’s have a look at a few of the teams who made a splash and what it means to their current Super Bowl future odds.

First we have the Washington Redskins, who dove into the deep-end of the free agency pool. Always known as big, but not smart, spenders, the Redskins signed one of the highest profile FAs available when they threw $100 million at DT Albert Haynesworth, formerly of the Tennessee Titans.

Owner Daniel Snyder was quoted as saying, ”I know $100 million is a lot of money, Baltimore Ravensbut we had to land a franchise quarterback who can lead this team to a Super Bowl.” At that point an assistant leaned over and told him Albert Haynesworth was a defensive tackle. Snyder’s head slumped and he walked away from the press conference muttering incoherently.

The ‘Skins also re-signed CB DeAngelo Hall and added offensive lineman Derrick Dockery from the Buffalo Bills.

Snyder has spent a ton over the years, but has nothing to show for it. Even with the additions, they are listed at 40-1 to win the big game next year. Online sportsbook SportsBetting.com reported some betting action on the Skins after the…

Is it 2001 all over again for the Ravens and the Titans?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

The Ravens certainly hope so.

In case you’ve been living under a rock lately, the 2009 NFL playoffs are underway with the final eight teams from the two conferences in the NFL finally complete. Arizona, San Diego, Philly and Baltimore all won their respective wild card playoff games to advance to the divisional round and face Carolina, Pittsburgh, the Giants and Tennessee respectively and as far as Tennessee is concerned, their AFC rivals this weekend are hoping it’ll be 2001 all over again.

The Baltimore Ravens will be facing the no.1 seed Tennessee Titans in the AFC divisional playoffs in a contest the Ravens are hoping to be eerily similar to their 2001 affair. You see, the last time the Ravens won the Super Bowl, it was back in 2001 when they got a ticket to the postseason through a wild card entry.

Ray LewisWho faced Baltimore in the divisional round? Yes, it was the Tennessee Titans, also seeded at no.1 then, hosting the Ravens in what was then known as the Adelphia Coliseum.

The Baltimore Ravens won that divisional playoff game, 24-10, coming up with an upset win over the top seeded Titans on their way to win the Super Bowl in… GET THIS… Tampa, Florida. And since this year’s Super Bowl will be in Tampa again, we are looking at the possible sequel of Baltimore’s Super Bowl title run.

Creepy huh?

Is this a precursor to the Ravens celebrating the Super Bowl XLIII win in…
