Who will take a chance on Terrell Owens?

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Yep, nobody has… YET.

For the second-consecutive year, Terrell Owens, the notorious wide receiver, is on the market as he remains unsigned with only a couple of months before the 2010 NFL football season begins but according to agent Drew Rosenhaus that will definitely change.

Rosenhaus said that Terrell Owens, who played for the Buffalo Bills last season, will have a new team “within the next few weeks.”

He added that five teams were interested in Owens. However, the San Diego Chargers aren’t one of them, despite Vincent Jackson being suspended three games by the NFL and threatening to hold out over his contact situation. “We’re all set right now with our receivers,” general manager A.J. Smith said in an interview.

The Seattle Seahawks are also out of the picture. “No, you know, I go way back with T.O.,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “I was there [as an assistant coach] when he showed up with the 49ers when he was a rookie and nobody knew he had any initials or anything. And I really liked Terrell. But we won’t be able to do that this time around. I think at our time in our program development, we’re going to continue to work with the guys that we’ve got and go in a different direction than that. We’re really looking to get the young guys going as much as we can.”

Owens said recently that he believed teams are swayed by the perception he’s a troublemaker. It’s a perception he believes he disproved with his agreeable behavior in Buffalo during a disappointing season in 2009.

“There were a number of times where prior I probably would…”

Teams continue to prepare for the 2010 NFL Season

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgChemistry, perhaps that’s the key to winning a Super Bowl.

Or is it defense? A hot shot quarterback with reliable receivers? The wildcat? Those are just some of the questions NFL teams are trying to answer as they prepare for the 2010 NFL football season in a few months.

That’s probably why some of these teams are signing names here and there to get that perfect combination they are hoping will win them the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals, for instance, have scheduled a visit with Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, a restricted free agent, as they explore adding depth as well as potential competition for Matt Leinart for that QB spot.

If the Cardinals sign Whitehurst and the Chargers decline to match the offer, Arizona would owe San Diego a third-round draft pick, which is the qualifying contract tender that was used on the quarterback, who was a third-round choice in 2006. That tender is worth $1,176,000 for the 2010 season.

The Cardinals have two third-round draft choices next month, having acquired Baltimore’s third- and fourth-round picks in a deal that sent wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the Ravens.

Leinart is the only quarterback currently under contract on the Cardinals’ roster.

On the other hand, New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club has agreed to re-sign reserve defensive back Leigh Torrence to a one-year contract.

Torrence has been with the Saints since being claimed off waivers in…

LaDainian Tomlinson signs with the New York Jets

Monday, March 15th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt looks like the Jets have once again signed a big name superstar who’s trying to prove something coming to the new season.

Yes, LaDainian Tomlinson will be playing for the New York Jets in the 2010 NFL football season. L.T. will be the Jets’ latest high profile superstar, joining the likes of Brett Favre, Bart Scott, Braylon Edwards and Antonio Cromartie who the Jets have signed the last few years, all were looking then to salvage what’s left of their playing days in the Big Apple.

But since LaDainian Tomlinson is joining the very team that ranked first in the league in rushing offense last season, there shouldn’t be any problems for L.T. to get going for New York right? After all, he made a career out of running the ball for years, even winning him the league MVP back in ‘06.

Well, if he was five years younger, there wouldn’t be any problems alright. But at 30, that’s a little hard to say for sure. Still, Tomlinson’s age hasn’t fazed his confidence one bit and he feels his marriage with the New York Jets will equate to a Super Bowl title. He wouldn’t be there if he thought otherwise.

”He wanted to go to a team that he thought had a chance to compete for the championship,” Tomlinson’s agent Tom Condon said in an interview. ”He wanted to go somewhere where he had a chance to have a significant role, and so with the Jets he also was going to be very familiar with the offensive system.”

With the $5.1 million the Jets are paying Tomlinson, he’s got to be ”familiar with the system” alright. The Jets signed Tomlinson to a two-year contract and if it turns out that Tomlinson still got it…

Which NFL team will LaDainian Tomlinson play for next?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgI’m hoping the Patriots will have the balls to go ahead and sign this dude.

The 2010 NFL football season is shaping up to be an interesting one to say the least with two of the league’s biggest and longest tenured running backs parting ways with their respective teams.

The releases of LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook have set off a firestorm of rumors and speculation about where the two backs might end up next season. Both still have a little something left in the tank, so it’s just a matter of finding the right team for their skill sets.

As far as LaDainian Tomlinson is concerned, he limits his prospective employment to teams capable of winning the Super Bowl. He has reduced his options to a very small field. And then he’s going to have to take a very modest contract, given his performance level in 2009 (730 rushing yards, 3.3 per carry, 20 catches) for a very good team.

There is a reasonably good chance no Super Bowl contender will offer Tomlinson, 30, that chance. But history says that Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots might, or Mike Shanahan in Washington could. This is not to say the Redskins are a Super Bowl contender.

It appears that unless Tomlinson is willing to join a team like the Cincinnati Bengals or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his best chance to reach the Super Bowl still might be through San Diego. And he just cashed out there.

One good fit for Tomlinson are the New Orleans Saints

LaDainian Tomlinson released by the San Diego Chargers

Friday, February 26th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgJust in case you still didn’t know already.

You read it, the former league MVP won’t be playing for the San Diego Chargers come the 2010 NFL football season. You see, after all those years leading them Chargers to winning seasons, the franchise he helped build finally got rid of him now that the once explosive Tomlinson is not so young anymore.

”It’s definitely sad to leave, but I’m excited, as well, about the future,” LaDainian Tomlinson said during a press conference. The San Diego Chargers released him after a mostly brilliant nine-year run in which he became one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.

L.T. was always in control on the football field, whether he was finding holes inside or going airborne over a pile of bodies near the endzone. However, in his farewell speech to the Chargers and their fans, he was unable to control his emotions.

”Sorry,” LaDainian Tomlinson said, as he fought back tears. ”It’s probably because I was all prepared and said I wasn’t going to do this. Sometimes emotions are what makes a person and as you guys know, I’ve always worn my emotions on my sleeve.”

”I’m very excited about the future and the opportunity that’s ahead,” Tomlinson said. ”I’ve always said my no.1 goal is to win the championship, so it gives me, I guess, confidence and relief to know guys have gone on to win championships.”

”This is not the end of the road at all. I’m not retiring. So…”

The 2010 NFL Pro Bowl sets us up for Super Bowl XLIV

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFor the first time ever, the Pro Bowl will come a week before THE big game, as this year’s Pro Bowl kicks off Super Bowl week with a bang.

Yes, the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl will now come before the Super Bowl and this year, the best players from both the AFC and the NFC will play at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida for this year’s annual showcase of the league’s premiere talent.

This way, football fans will be able to further build their anticipation heading to Super Bowl XLIV and as far as this year’s Pro Bowl starters are concerned, both teams’ rosters have some familiar faces.

Leading the pack for the AFC squad is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. Other selections include Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson, Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Colts teammate Reggie Wayne.

Dallas Clark, who also plays for the Indianapolis Colts, was also voted in for the Pro Bowl to play tight end, starting tackles will be the Dolphins’ Jake Long and the Broncos’ Ryan Clady. Starting guards for the AFC will be the Patriots’ Logan Mankins and Alan Faneca of the New York Jets.

Faneca’s teammate Nick Mangold will be the AFC’s starting center…

Seriously, can the Jets keep this up and beat the Colts?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFirst, the Bengals then the Chargers. How good has this Jets team been?!?

In case you didn’t know, YES, the last team to make it to the NFL playoffs will play in the 2010 AFC championship game. Go figure.

Coach Rex Ryan said the New York Jets should be the favorites to win every single game they play in the postseason and they certainly made a point in their last two playoff games. But can these guys keep it going against arguably THE team to beat in the AFC the last few years?

Yup, Mark Sanchez and the rest of the Jets are going to take on Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts with the winner earning the ticket to Super Bowl XLIV at Dolphins, Stadium in Miami, Florida. Can the Jets keep this Cinderella run they’ve been having?

Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, who completed 12 of 15 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown in the Jets’ wildcard playoff win over the Bengals, had another stellar performance in their playoff win over the heavy favorites San Diego Chargers. The USC product completed 12 of 23 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in his return to California, sending the state’s beloved Chargers to an early vacation.

The Jets’ strength however, is their defense. They managed to shut down Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati before neutralizing the Chargers offense in San Diego last Sunday. Can they do the same against Peyton Manning? That friends, is…

Chargers Fans are Starting to Hate on Nate Kaeding

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Yeah, and some of those guys are even accusing Kaeding of game fixing, if you can believe that.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the San Diego Chargers (Remember ‘em? The ”hottest” team in the league two weeks ago?) was taken out of the 2010 NFL playoffs rather prematurely after Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding missed not one, not two, but THREE freakin’ field goals to allow the New York Jets to weasel their way to yet another playoff victory.

And you can bet your ass San Diego Chargers fans haven’t forgiven poor ol’ Nate yet. It turns out that those fans hate the guy so much that they even came up with these terrible internet jokes that even Eminem will find offensive. Wanna’ read some of ‘em? Here they are.

”Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to hang himself last night? He got the noose around his neck but couldn’t kick the chair.”

”Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to shoot himself last night? The bullet was wide right.”

”Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to swallow a bottle of sleeping pills last night? He choked on the first three.”

Oh yes, they hate the guy alright but who can really blame these fans? I mean, Kaeding was money all year long. In fact, he was the most accurate kicker in all of football before last Sunday. Heck, he only missed three field goals in total all year…

Jets take on the Chargers in big AFC divisional match-up

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThe hottest team in the playoffs meet the hottest team of the season.

That’s exactly what we’ll be having in this AFC divisional match-up of the 2010 NFL playoffs as the New York Jets, became the hottest team of the playoffs after shocking the Bengals last week, face the San Diego Chargers, the hottest team of the season after winning a freakish 11 straight games.

Yup, the San Diego Chargers sure look unbeatable at this point of the year but after the New York Jets ”weaseled” their way to a wild card playoff spot before shocking the Cincinnati Bengals last week, it’s clear the Jets have the momentum.

The New York Jets, coming off a remarkable 24-14 victory in Cincinnati, were great against the pass allowing just 110 passing yards. Their defense did break down against the run last week allowing the Bengals to gain 171 rushing yards on 21 attempts.

But since the Bengals had no other choice but to run with the football, thanks primarily to the outstanding performance of Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis when he virtually shut Chad Ochocinco down, the Jets are probably better off letting the opposing team run with the football and just take…

Is the Patriots’ Era of Dominance in the NFL over?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

From 2001 to 2010, they have been a title contender. But after such a humiliating loss to the Ravens last Sunday, is it time for the Pats to start rebuilding?

In case you missed it, yes, the Patriots are out of the 2010 NFL playoffs after the Ravens came in Foxboro and simply whip the Patriots’ asses right in front of the faithful Patriots crowd.

It was humiliating to say the least, especially for a team like the New England Patriots that has become the measuring stick by which most teams in the NFL compare themselves with to determine if they finally have what it takes to play with the league’s elite.

Last Sunday, the Patriots wasn’t anything like that as the Baltimore Ravens simply dominated the Patriots right from the get go. Heck, the Ravens were already up seven merely 17 seconds into the game after Ray Rice ran up the middle for 83 yards.

When it was all said and done, Ray Rice had 159 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, leading the Ravens to a 33-14 whipping of the New England Patriots to advance to the…
