Is Tracy McGrady enough to lure LeBron James in NY?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

If they do, then you can bet your ass the Knicks will be the team to beat next season.

After getting the services of multi – time All – Star Tracy McGrady this 2010 NBA basketball season from a three team trade with the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings, the New York Knicks were able to clear enough salary-cap space for the Knicks to possibly sign two maximum-salary free agents this summer.

That’s right, the New York Knicks could recruit LeBron James by giving him the option of choosing which other free agent he wants from the likes of Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire and Dirk Nowitzki.

However, getting LeBron James out of Cleveland won’t be easy since the Cavs, who own the league’s best record, bolstered their lineup with the addition of former Wizards forward Antawn Jamison. If Cleveland advances to its second NBA Finals stint in four years with LeBron, the odds of him leaving his home state figure to be diminished.

Sorry Knicks fans.

The New York Knicks aren’t the only team to clear cap space. The Chicago Bulls, a team featuring point guard Derrick Rose and a better core group of players than…

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhich teams will play for a BCS bowl game?

We’ll know soon enough. But right now, we have games for you to bet on for Week 13 of the 2009 NCAA college football season.

First we have the Oklahoma State Cowboys looking for their fourth straight victory as they battle the Oklahoma Sooners. The 12th Cowboys are on a roll with three straight wins, getting a huge lift from quarterback Zac Robinson.

He set an Oklahoma State record last season by completing 65 percent of his passes and still has a shot at achieving that mark again, completing 158 of 249 passes for a .635 completion percentage in 2009. Also stepping up for the Cowboys is running back Keith Toston. Since taking over as Oklahoma State’s featured rusher, the guy has averaged 103.6 yards.

arkansas_razorbacksOn the other hand, the Oklahoma Sooners will try to rebound from a 41-13 loss against Texas Tech. With the loss, Oklahoma (6-5, 4-3) now has its most losses since going 7-5 in 1999. It was just the fifth victory in 17 meetings for Texas Tech against the Sooners, and the Red Raiders had never won by more than 10 points in the series.

The huge win was a stunning reversal from last season, when the Sooners crushed Texas Tech 65-21 to end the Red Raiders’ national championship hopes. Oklahoma hadn’t lost this badly since falling to Texas 45-12 in 2005.

Expect the Sooners to bounce back against the…

2009 College Football Week 11 Gambling Guide

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt’s Week 11 and we have Florida trying to extend a nation-best 18-game winning streak.

Yep, it has been that crazy for the Florida Gators this 2009 NCAA college football season. Can they remain on top of the BCS after this weekend? They have the South Carolina Gamecocks next and I have a feeling the Gators will continue pounding on the rest of the field.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will be led by quarterback Stephen Garcia, who has thrown for 2,094 yards, including three 300-yard games. The 6-2, 219-pound sophomore has thrown 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Garcia ranks 10th in the SEC in passing efficiency and yet he squandered chances for signature moments, such as the final offensive snap at Georgia.

Don’t expect these guys to stop the Florida Gators from winning their 19th straight game.

tcu_horned_frogsWe also have some other games that should prove to be profitable for ya’ll, like this one between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Hawkeyes are looking to improve their current BCS standing, a win over Ohio State will do just that.

The 4th seeded Iowa Hawkeyes will continue to rely on the services of quarterback Ricky Stanzi, despite throwing five interceptions in their last win against Indiana.

Iowa remains fourth in the BCS for the second straight week, their highest ranking in school history. The Hawkeyes are also the highest-rated Big Ten team in the BCS. Iowa is 78-43 in this decade (.644), one of the best winning percentages in school history. The Hawkeyes were 77-40-4 (.652) during the 1980s.

But will you pick them over Ohio State..?

Week 4 Picks for the 2009 College Football Season

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFor those of you still whining about USC’s loss to Washington, get over it because this could be the week that’ll get your money back.

Well, we’re not promising you anything but since Week 4 of the 2009 NCAA college football season will definitely give all of us who lost a lot of dough on that USC game a fresh start, it doesn’t hurt to hope for the best.

And hope for the best we will indeed as Week 4 on the college gridiron should give you some interesting games for you to enjoy and hopefully, win some cash out of it too. For starters, we have the Mississippi Rebels, ranked No.4 in the Associated Press poll, getting their first big test of the season Thursday night when they face the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia. The Rebels are coming off a rather easy 52-6 win over Southeastern Louisiana last Saturday.

usc_trojansHowever, while that one was a breeze for Mississippi, the same couldn’t be said this week since they only have four days to prepare for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Fortunately, the Rebels are healthy again after an outbreak of flu last week that affected almost a third of the roster. Let’s see if they still have something left in the tank this Thursday.

Next, we have the Virginia Tech Hokies hosting the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday as the Hokies will ride on their momentum as they gun for their third win in four outings. The last time the Hokies were on the field, the Nebraska Cornhuskers limited them to two first downs and 55 yards for the first 28 minutes of the second half before bouncing right back up with two plays, Tyrod Taylor’s 81-yard pass to Danny Coale that put it at the Nebraska 3, then Taylor’s 11-yard strike to Dyrell Roberts with 21 seconds left for the win over the stunned Cornhuskers.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Hokies will play the…

Is Florida really the BCS champions? Ask Utah.

Monday, January 19th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgNo team in football has gone through a season undefeated the last few years, both in the professional arena and on the college gridiron.

Other than, of course, the Utah Utes. These guys have accomplished what the New England Patriots last season, the Tennessee Titans this season, the Oklahoma Sooners every season and even the newly crowned 2009 BCS national champions Florida Gators failed and that’s run through everybody without remorse.

Yes, the Utah Utes simply wiped out the competition this season, finishing with an incredible 13-0 record to put them at the very top of college football, stat-wise. Of course, it was questionable why Utah didn’t get the invite for the BCS national title game but as far as true football fans are concerned, they are the champs. Period.

Utah UtesYou read it, the Utah Utes ARE the true champions. And not even the Oklahoma Sooners or the Florida Gators can argue the fact that the Utes had a far better run than they have other than of course, the fact that Florida was awarded with the national title.

The Utes defeated FOUR ranked teams before beating the Alabama Crimson Tide for the Sugar Bowl, the same Alabama team that went through the regular season undefeated before running into Utah.

Oh yeah, this was also the same Alabama team that the Gators had to beat to…

The 2009 BCS National Championship Game is ON!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

The Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners, which team will be your pick?

Yes, the biggest game in college football is on as the Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners play in the 2009 BCS national championship game on January 8 in Miami, Florida.

There were seven other teams with one loss at the top of the rankings, just like the Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida Gators, both at 12-1. Two more finished the season a perfect 12-0, that’s the Boise State Broncos and the Utah Utes. But since nobody dominated the last two months of the season like Oklahoma and Florida did, they got the go to play in the national title game despite having a loss each.

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Tim TebowFlorida Gators, after dominating the rest of the field during the last few weeks, were ranked No.1 and No.2 respectively in the somewhat controversial BCS standings to end the regular season. And although some people may argue if Florida and Oklahoma were the right choices to play for the national title, both teams are still two of the best programs on the college gridiron and we’re still in for a treat in Miami.

Besides, the two quarterbacks playing for the two competing teams on January 8 were the top two candidates for the 2008 Heisman trophy. Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford won it while Tim Tebow of Florida had to settle for runner-up honors…

Alabama Crimson Tide – Utah Utes in the Sugar Bowl

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt’s so unfortunate for the Crimson Tide to end what has been a dominant year this way.

The Alabama Crimson Tide stayed on top of the BCS rankings the longest this 2008 NCAA college football season. Head coach Nick Saban has done an awesome job keeping the Crimson Tide at the top of their game.

Unfortunately, the Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a 31-20 loss to the Florida Gators at the wrong time, during the last few weeks of the season. The defeat couldn’t have come at a worse time, since it gave Alabama no chance to bounce back like other one-loss teams like, ironically Florida and the Oklahoma Sooners, two teams facing off in the BCS championship game in Miami. So instead of playing for the national title, they had to settle for the 2009 AllState Sugar Bowl.

Nick SabanDespite that, the Alabama Crimson Tide was STILL one of the country’s most compelling teams, returning to national prominence in coach Nick Saban’s second season.

Before Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama had gone through a rough decade; four coaches, four losing seasons, stifling NCAA sanctions and just one appearance in a major bowl. Saban brought the Crimson Tide back and despite losing out on a chance to play for the BCS national title, the season they had is still a success, anyway you look at it.

They meet the Utah Utes, also returning to prominence with…

2008 NCAA College Football Week 13 Betting Picks

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

It’s Week 13, hopefully, the number 13 will bring some of these teams luck.

Since the 2008 NCAA college football season is on the final stretch, teams will certainly need more than luck just to make it all the way to the coveted berths for a BCS bowl game. And as always, we have some big games for you that will rock the BCS rankings this weekend.

First, we have the Ohio State Buckeyes. They have a chance to win a share of a fourth consecutive Big Ten title and earn an automatic BCS berth with a win against the struggling Michigan Wolverines. Ohio State (9-2, 6-1) ranks 84th nationally in total offense (332.7 yards per game), and are 107th out of 119 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in passing (144.8).

With all the struggles Ohio State Buckeyesthey’ve been having offensively, facing the Michigan Wolverines (3-8, 2-5) could just be what the doctor ordered since those guys are virtually going nowhere this year.

Next, the Florida Gators, the No.3 ranked team in the nation, is expected to win their game against Citadel n convincing fashion since it’s a school to which they’ve never lost to. Florida (9-1) closed out its conference slate with a 56-6 home rout of South Carolina and former coach Steve Spurrier last Saturday. It was the sixth straight victory for the SEC East Division champions, with all six wins coming by at least 28 points.

Florida has outscored opponents 299-63 during its…

BYU Cougars visit TCU Horned Frogs on Thursday

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

6-0. That’s where the Cougars are at this point of the season.

You read it, BYU is undefeated after seven weeks into the 2008 NCAA college football season and they will put that undefeated streak on the lie when they go up against the TCU Horned Frogs to start Week 8 of college football.

The BYU Cougars have the longest winning streak in college football. Since losing at Tulsa back in September 15, 2007, they have won 16 straight games, winning their 6th straight game of the season after beating New Mexico 21-3 last Saturday.

The Cougars are in their BYU Cougars vs TCU Horned Frogsfirst 6-0 start since opening 2001 with 12 wins. Beating the TCU Horned Frogs, who currently stand at 6-1, a perfect 3-0 in conference play, is next on their itinerary.

The Horned Frogs, who received the 27th-most votes in this week’s AP poll for their dominant defense, are being challenged to remain unbeaten in the Mountain West. Along with Brigham Young and the Utah Utes, TCU is one of three teams looking to come out of the Mountain West with a bid for a 2008 BCS Bowl game come January.

TCU has held five of its seven opponents to seven points or fewer. TCU is No.1 in the nation in total defense, only giving up 207.4 yards per…
