No.6 seed Marquette takes on No.11 Washington to kick off the 2010 March Madness Bracket Tournament

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Heeere we go.

An intriguing game in the 2010 March Madness bracket tournament will be played on Thursday as 11th seed Washington faces 6th seed Marquette. This is the third straight year Marquette has been a number six seed in the NCAA tournament. Two years ago they beat 11th seed Kentucky in the first round before losing to third-seeded Stanford in overtime in the second round. Last year, Marquette beat 11th seed Utah State and lost to third-seeded Missouri in the second round. It is the fifth straight year the Eagles have made the tournament.

The Marquette Golden Eagles are 2-point favorites at SBG Global.

Not much was expected of Marquette this season since they lost three starters, but the Eagles really came together late in the season, winning 11 of their last 14 games. The Eagles don’t have much of a bench so the starters are a big key. Marquette had some nice wins this year over Villanova, Georgetown and Xavier so they are capable of making a little run in the NCAA tournament.

Lazar Hayward is their big scorer. He was named second team All-Big East this season. Marquette is a good shooting team, especially from long range. The Eagles averaged 72.9 points per game this season while they allowed 64.2 points per game.

The Washington Huskies, on the other hand, had what could be considered a disappointing regular season but they made up for it by winning the Pac-10 Tournament. Washington has some players who can make an impact including Quincy Pondexter who leads the team in scoring.

Marquette and Washington have met twice in history but it was a long time ago. Marquette won 75-74 in 1966 and 71-63 in 1978.

The Huskies are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall but…

Your Gambling Guide for Week 7 in College Football

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

There sure have been a couple of HUGE surprises last week.

Admit it, the way Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford came back to the field last weekend caught most of you off guard. Hopefully, they didn’t make you lose that much dough. Coming to Week 7 of the 2009 NCAA college football season, we’ll get you ready and hyped up for this weekend’s games so you won’t make the same mistakes twice.

Coming from their first win over a Football Bowl Subdivision team in nearly a year, the Louisville Cardinals gun for back to back victories over another when they play the Connecticut Huskies Saturday night.

usc_trojansRyan Payne kicked a 32-yard field goal with 30 seconds left to play to give Louisville its first FBS win, 25-23, over Southern Mississippi. Wide receiver Scott Long had a career day for the Cardinals, with 146 yards receiving on five catches, plus a touchdown.

The Connecticut Huskies, meanwhile, look to bounce back from a disheartening loss they suffered against Pittsburgh. Connecticut (3-2, 0-1 in Big East) led 21-6 after Andre Dixon scored on a 2-yard run to end a 61-yard drive with 3:56 remaining in the third quarter. But Pitt quarterback Bill Stull, who made several major mistakes in the first half, found Jonathan Baldwin on a 26-yard scoring pass play set up by Dion Lewis’ 32-yard run to cut it to 21-13 before eventually stealing the game from…

Subtle Madness before the 2009 March Madness Begins

Friday, March 13th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSelection Sunday is coming.

”The calm before the storm” is on as conference tournaments are now underway coming to the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament. It’s all about seedings to those teams hopeful to win the national title by season’s end with their seeds for March secured.

But in leagues such as the Atlantic Sun, Patriot and Sun Belt, it’s winner-take-all. There are no at-large bids, and the teams know that if they want to be in the March spotlight, they must win their league tournament first.

In the Big 12 Conference, Connecticut Huskiesthe Kansas Jayhawks won the regular-season title by a game over Oklahoma, which lost twice while star big man Blake Griffin was sidelined by a concussion. One of those losses was at home to the Jayhawks. Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma are NCAA locks, while Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State look good for bids.

For the Big East, the Louisville Cardinals won the regular-season title by a game over Connecticut and Pittsburgh. If the Cardinals can also win the league tournament, they’re a good bet for a No.1 seed.

Seven Big East teams; Louisville, second-seeded Pittsburgh, third-seeded Connecticut Huskies

Which team will get the invite for the 2009 March Madness Bracket Tournament on Selection Sunday?

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Selection Sunday is on March 15, in case you didn’t know.

That means, you should now be getting ready for the March Madness bracket tournament with Selection Sunday just around the corner. The opening round of the tournament begins on March 17 as the rest of the field gets narrowed down to four for the 2009 NCAA Final Four on April 4 and 6 at Ford Field in Detroit Michigan.

The predictions for which college teams will be picked for the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament have been coming out since the last tournament finished. The phrase ”March Madness” was coined by Henry V. Porter in 1939, to describe an Illinois high school basketball tourney. Brent Musburger first used it during his NCAA coverage in 1982 causing a legal battle almost as insane as the playoffs. But everyone finally worked things out and the madness was official. There isn’t a good record of who first called the playoffs ‘The Big Dance,’ but it does describe the action.

2009 March Madness Bracket TournamentThe five schools who have the winningnest history in NCAA Division I Men’s basketball include UCLA with 11 championships; Kentucky who won the March Madness tourney seven times; Indiana with 5 Big Dance victories; the North Carolina Tar Heels having outlasted all the other teams 4 times, including their championship win in 2005, and Duke with 3 titles.

There are 8 teams that won twice and others who are trying to reach that goal this year.

Leading the division in the America East are the Vermont Catamounts and…

2008 NCAA College Football Week 10 Betting Picks

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Week 10 continues with probably our favorite team to watch this year, the Crimson Tide.

Yep, out of all the teams to watch this 2008 NCAA college football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide is probably the most interesting one. And as long as Nick Saban, the same guy who bamboozled the Dolphins a few years ago when he shockingly left them for college pigskin, is running things, nothing is always as it seems.

Nick Saban had the Alabama Crimson Tide in excellent shape heading into November last season, having turned the team from an afterthought to an SEC contender in his first year on the job. Saban’s team, though, couldn’t end its struggles in the season’s final month. With a spot in the BCS championship game now within their grasp, the second-ranked Crimson Tide will have considerably higher stakes at play during their slate this November, starting this Saturday with a game against Arkansas State.

Alabama Crimson TideAlabama (8-0, 5-0 SEC) was standing at 6-2 and ranked No.17 at the end of last October, an impressive climb in Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa after he inherited a program coming off a 6-7 finish in 2006. The Crimson Tide lost all four of their games in November, including an ugly 21-14 defeat at home to Louisiana-Monroe, a member of the Sun Belt conference.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves on the other hand, have beaten the only BCS conference opponent they’ve played this season, topping Texas A&M 18-14 in their Aug. 30 season opener. Although the Red Wolves may have trouble stopping the rush…

Baylor Bears, Connecticut Huskies meet in NCAA Jungle

Friday, September 19th, 2008

It’s a jungle out there.

And on Friday, the 2008 NCAA college football season will be just that when the Bears and the Huskies go all out to win what is shaping up to be an important Week 4 face-off.

The Baylor Bears, after losing their first game of the season, came back with back-to-back wins over Northwestern State and Washington State to escape what could’ve been a disastrous start to the season.

The Connecticut Huskies, on the other hand, are still surprising everybody with their perfect 3-0 start on the college gridiron. Known predominantly as a very good basketball program, doing this good so far on that football field is shocking, to say the least, even to themselves.

Baylor BearsThe Huskies are known for winning NCAA championships in men’s and women’s basketball, but they’ve proven that they can also play football this season. In just their sixth year of Division I football, the Huskies were Big East co-champions with West Virginia last season.

Following a 9-4 finish and a trip to the Meineke Car Care Bowl, they have opened the season with three home games. However, the Huskies will face a daunting task when they play host Friday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford against the Baylor Bears, who are looking for their third straight win after the humiliation they got against the Demon Deacons in Week 1.

For what it’s worth, the Huskies have guys like Donald Brown, who is…

2007 NCAA College Football Week 5 Betting Picks

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

It’s Week 5 and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish haven’t won anything whatsoever yet.

And as much as we would just love to dwell into that more, we know that the 2007 NCAA college football season does not revolve around the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. (Or any Irish whatsoever…)

That means one thing and one thing only, it’s time for your weekly dose of picks for Week No.5 in the 2007 NCAA college football season. (I know that’s a rather weak way to introduce this article to ya’ll but hey, you don’t have much of a choice anyway especially if you’re still reading this…)

Boise State BroncosWeek 5 kicks off Thursday when the Memphis Tigers take on the Arkansas State Indians before the Southern Miss Golden Eagles take on the explosive Boise State Broncos.

Both Memphis and Arkansas State are at a 1-2 start to the season and would love nothing more but to even things up this Thursday. Arkansas State is 1-0 at home before they host the Tigers on Thursday, who by the way, are 0-1 on the road.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see who’ll win this one.

As for the Golden Eagles – Broncos game, the Golden Eagles will try to…

Ohio State Buckeyes face Washington Huskies Saturday

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

And after ending Boise State’s winning streak to 14, the Huskies are probably hoping they’ll have more than just punts against the Buckeyes.

Rightfully so, because the last time the Ohio State Buckeyes were in the field this 2007-08 NCAA college football season, they did not give their opponents anything other than punts.

Yep, the Ohio State Buckeyes sure were a tough nut to crack last Saturday when they hosted the Akron Zips. And just because Ohio State’s rivals then have ”Zips” for a moniker, the Buckeyes simply ZIPPED their rivals’ offense for them.

The Akron Zips were unable to do anything against the Ohio State defense other than punt the ball, punt it again and punt it some more. The Zips could only come up with 71 yards on offense, scoring only two points in the very first quarter from a safety play before going scoreless for the rest of the game.

For what it’s worth, the Akron Zips kinda’ knew what was coming heading to this one. Hell, they are facing one of two finalists who played in last season’s BCS championship game. What they didn’t count on was how bad they lost.

”We’re young and inexperienced and we’re playing against one of the better front sevens in the country,” Akron Zips head coach J.D. Brookhart said. ”We knew we’d struggle, but not that badly.”

For what it’s worth, the Akron Zips did have…
