SBG Global is Ready for the FIFA World Cup on Friday

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

The 2010 World Cup begins on Friday, June 11th as the host country South Africa takes on Mexico.

A total of 32 teams will be competing for the 2010 FIFA World Cup title with Spain and Brazil the two favorites. There have been a total of 18 World Cups in history and only seven teams have ever won the title. Four years ago it was Italy winning the World Cup as they defeated France in a penalty shootout.

There are really only five teams that are serious contenders to win this year’s World Cup. Spain is loaded with talent and they have an easy group with Switzerlands, Honduras and Chile. With players like Fernando Torres, David Villa, Xaba and Cesc Fabregas, the Spanish team has the talent to win their first World Cup betting .

The only concern for Spain is that they could face a tough round of 16 match against the second place team from Group G which should be Brazil or Portugal. Brazil is the likely winner of Group G but if they somehow slip and finish second, wouldn’t it be a huge shock to have the two favorites, Brazil and Spain playing in the round of 16?

Brazil has won the World Cup a total of five times and they are a real threat to win it again this year. They play in a tough group with Portugal and Ivory Coast but they should not have any trouble advancing to the round of 16 especially since Ivory Coast probably has no chance now that leading scorer Didier Drogba is out with an injury.

England is the third choice in the betting odds behind Spain and…

2010 FIFA World Cup Preview: North Korea

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgLittle is known about national team from North Korea.

Thanks to the secretive nature of communist North Korea, the abilities of their national team competing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup are somewhat unknown, although they did enjoy a good World Cup qualifying campaign.

They finished second in their group behind their neighbors, South Korea, and ahead of Saudi Arabia on goal difference. Their reward was hardly a friendly welcome back to the World Cup, with Brazil, Portugal, and the Ivory Coast all teams of the highest quality.

The last time North Korea made it this far was in 1966. Such was the impact made by the players (including, apparently, on the local young ladies) in the north of England that a superb documentary following the surviving teammates, ‘The Game of Their Lives,’ was made in 2002.

Coincidentally, the game they are remembered for was against their opponents for 2010, Portugal. 3-0 up after 25 minutes of their quarter-final, North Korea were first pegged back and then destroyed by the power of the peerless Eusebio, who scored four in an eventual 5-3 win.

The good performances by North Korean women’s teams at international age group World Cups, winners at under-17 level and runners-up at under-20, is indicative of the fact that the country has football talent and good coaching. However, some of their results in 2009 were not as encouraging.

There were a couple of head-scratching defeats mixed in…

South Africa is ready for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Friday, March 26th, 2010

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSouth Africa is the place to be come June.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in ten different South African stadiums between June 11 and July 11, 2010. It is a historic undertaking because it is the first time that the famous series of matches will be hosted by an African nation. It is expected that more than one billion fans will tune into many of the games and follow all of the events that happen during this time.

The new stadiums in South Africa are some of the most spectacular venues in the world and they will collectively seat more than 570,000 people. The Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban has a steel arch 105 m above the middle of the pitch, and by using a cable car, spectators will enjoy a stunning view of the Indian Ocean.

Soccer City in Johannesburg takes the form of a calabash, a traditional African drinking vessel. The outer skin area spans 43 000 m2 and will be constructed from wholly natural energy-efficient material. It is the biggest stadium in Africa, seating almost 95,000 people.

The Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit is situated in a region known for its wild beauty and animals, close to the Kruger National Park. Its signature feature is the 18 roof supports that resemble giraffes. Stadiums in townships are being upgraded, some as training venues.

These include; Orlando Stadium, which has been…

Can England finally win the 2010 FIFA World Cup?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

The World Cup, which is played every four years, never fails to capture the imagination of the English people.

And after failing to qualify for Euro 2008, it has been a long four years for England fans to wait and remember what it feels like to get behind their team in a major international competition. Now that England is in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, English football fans couldn’t be any happier.

England head to South Africa confident, having easily secured their place for this year’s World Cup. And for the first time in quite a long time, English fans can finally look forward to the World Cup with a sense of optimism.

With players such as Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard ranking amongst the best in the world, together with the other members of the talented England squad, Fabio Cappello could well be the man to guide England to World Cup glory for the first time since 1966.

The draw for the 2010 World Cup took place in Cape Town and with the way the countries have been drawn, it looks like lady luck is really smiling on England. They got a great draw coming up against USA, Slovenia and Algeria in Group C, making the English team as the clear favorites to win the group.

Looking back at England’s history in the World Cup, England has entered all 14 post-war competitions. They qualified through play in the preliminary competition on…

Manchester United in UEFA Champions League Quarters

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt was sweet revenge for Sir Alex Ferguson and his Man-U contingent.

The 2009 UEFA Champions League just got interesting after Manchester United qualified for the quarter finals, earning a 2-0 win over Inter Milan and giving Ferguson a win over his rival, Jose Mourinho.

You see, Jose Mourinho, now with Inter Milan, has been kicking Ferguson’s ass for years when Mourinho was then with Chelsea FC. It was ironic that Ferguson was in a face-off with his old nemesis again and fortunately for Fergie, Manchester United managed to pull through this time around.

Thanks to strong early starts Cristiano Ronaldofrom Man-U in each of the two halves of the fixture, Manchester United defeated Inter Milan, 2-0, to earn the trip to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Nemanja Vidic came up with a header for Man-U early in the first half before Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the deal with another header early in the second. Of course, Old Trafford was more than happy to see their club moving on in the tournament, especially since it’s a win over Mourinho.

”My team was fantastic but they were not lucky,” Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho said.

There were times in the fixture that Inter Milan looked…

Which football teams playing in the 2008 English Premier League are dealing with injuries?

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

As if we care. For those of you who do, read on.

Many football teams playing in the 2008 English Premier League are dealing with injuries. Chelsea is at the top of the standings with their unbeaten start but they are already missing a number of their key players.

In their Champions League match with FCR Cluj, Chelsea was without Joe Cole, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho and Ashley Cole. What’s even worse is that they lost Didier Drogba to a knee injury in that match and he could be out of a while. John Terry and Alex were also hurt in that match.

”I need to think for the game on Sunday,” Cristiano Ronaldosaid manager Luiz Felipe Scolari. ”I have a few days to build the team again. I don’t know now what the possibilities I have for Sunday are.”

The injuries really could cause Chelsea to fall out of first place.

”If Didier is out for a while, we will have to pitch in with goals from all around the team, which we can do, though the situation is not ideal,” said midfielder Frank Lampard. ”The experience is not really there, but I believe the quality is.”

Sunderland, on the other hand, is still without striker Kenwyne Jones.

”Kenwyne’s making good progress,” Sunderland manager Roy Keane said. ”The surgeon is delighted with the way it is going. He’s working extremely hard to get back and is showing…”

Manchester United won the 2008 English Premier League Title (Somebody from Old Trafford is happy…)

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Once again, Old Trafford celebrates.

The 2007-08 English Premier League season finally concluded with the usual suspects, Man-U, winning the coveted English football title after beating Wigan 2-0 on the final day of the season.

This is now the 10th Premier League championship the Manchester United Red Devils have won in the last 16 years. Talk about domination huh? After taking it away from Chelsea last season, Man-U made sure that their title win last year was no fluke after successfully defending their crown despite the slow start to the season.

Speaking of Chelsea FC, they had the opportunity to make this year’s Premiership title chase interesting. They were up against Bolton on the final day of the season, holding a 1-0 lead. They could’ve had a 2-0 win over Bolton and steal the title away from their rivals from Man-U by taking over the points lead in the standings, instead, they gave up a goal merely a few minutes before the match ended, ending up Manchester United Red Devilswith a 1-1 draw to the Bolton Wanderers and two points behind Man-U after the anticlimactic finish.

Yeeesh… What a waste that was.

In the end, Manchester United finished with 87 championship points to win this year’s Premiership while Chelsea FC wound up with 85. This was the closest finish for the Premiership since Man-U edged Arsenal by a single point back in 1999.

Now, Manchester United, with 10 Premiership titles, will continue to chase the…

The Big Names and the Big Teams coming out of the 2007-08 English Premiere League Season

Monday, March 10th, 2008

The championship games of the international football season is coming and the defending English champs from Man-U are still on top.

At this point of the 2008 English Premiere League, Manchester United is still the defending champions until somebody dethrones them at the top. Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, the Red Devils are still looking quite solid to defend their crown once it’s all said and done.

Cristiano Ronaldo STILL is a juggernaut on the field. He currently holds the lead for the scoring title this year after winning the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year in 2007. No.7 still is the man to stop as far as playing the defending champs, Manchester United, are concerned. Of course, they still have a guy like Wayne Rooney, proving why you have to bring your A-game when facing these guys.

Cristiano RonaldoNext, we have Arsenal. Led by Emmanuel Adebayor, the man trailing Cristiano Ronaldo for this year’s scoring title, Arsenal can very well dictate how the English Premier League season concludes. They still are this year’s Cinderella team.

After all, nobody expected these guys to still be this good with their star Thierry Henry, leaving Arsenal to play for Barcelona in the Spanish Primera.

Moving on to the next team that banners one of the young guns with much to flaunt is Liverpool. Although they are having quite a subpar season, Fernando Torres should still give ya’ll enough…

Manchester United beats Dynamo Kiev, advances to second round of the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

It wasn’t even a contest.

Man-U earned a seat for the second round of the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League by routing Dynamo Kiev, 4-0.

It was the usual stars who shined, plus a newbie who scored for the first time for his team as Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo each scored a goal for the Manchester United Red Devils after Gerard Pique scored his first goal for Man-U with a header on the 31st minute.

Manchester United kept their perfect record of 12 points from four games still intact. Second place AS Roma then assured Man-U’s entrance to the second round after ending their fixture with Sporting Lisbon with a 2-2 draw.

Manchester United”It was a perfect result and gets us into the next stage so we must be very pleased with that,” Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said.

Dynamo Kiev never had a chance the whole game as Man-U simply dominated with three of their biggest superstars at their best.

Carlos Tevez scored on the 37th minute before the familiar tandem of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the second half of play. Rooney scored in the 76th (his 7th goal in eight games…) while Ronaldo got behind the net in the 87th minute.

Thanks of course to Gerard Pique who scored his first one as a Red Devil and started the scoring barrage for Manchester United.

”(Dynamo) adopted a man-marking system and…”
