Cheick Kongo is ready for the undefeated Cain Velasquez this Saturday at UFC 99: The Comeback

By: Syndicate

That’s what he claims anyway.

In case you didn’t know, UFC 99: The Comeback is set this Saturday and it’s shaping up to be a good one despite the fact that we won’t have any fights with a world championship title belt at stake.

One match scheduled for the pay per view is this heavyweight bout between Frenchman Cheick Kongo and the undefeated Cain Velasquez. Many see this fight as a precursor to a shot at Brock Lesnar’s world title belt. Many see this one as a fight between two of the brightest stars in the UFC. However, for some reason, Kongo feels otherwise.

”I don’t think I am a ’star’, I am not that type of person,” Cheick Kongo said. ”But to be recognized and have people like you is a good thing, a great vibe. I am friends with Michael Bisping and he has great support in England and people say France is Cheick Kongobecoming like that for me. So if I can help MMA in France I am happy to. It is a great pleasure to have French people supporting me.”

Initially, Kongo wasn’t the one who was scheduled to face Cain Velasquez. He’s just filling in for the injured Heat Herring. Despite the fact that he only had three weeks to prepare for probably the biggest fight of his career, he remains confident.

”I only had three weeks to prepare but that is okay. I am always in shape, always. I go the gym two times a day, every day, even if I do not have a fight. When in training I am doing eight hours a day split into four sessions.”

”I am a fighter and I was ready to fight. The only…”

Game 7 of the 2009 NHL Stanley Cup Finals is ON

By: J.J. Jack

And we promise it’ll be a finish you shouldn’t miss.

The 2009 NHL Stanley Cup Finals turned out to be a fantastic one. We all thought the Red Wings would be able to finish off the Penguins in six games to win the Cup. After all, they did it last year.

But for some reason, the Pittsburgh Penguins managed to live another day this time. While they succumb to Detroit last year after six games, the Penguins made sure they will make Detroit work a little harder for the Cup this year.

2009 NHL Stanley CupThe Detroit Red Wings struggled in Game 6. They went scoreless in the first two periods and their unstoppable offense that catapulted them again this deep into the postseason was nowhere to be seen.

The Penguins, of course, took advantage. They got on the board in the second period before scoring yet again in the 5th minute of the final one. The Red Wings didn’t score until the 8th minute. After that, they pretty much…

Can the Magic beat the Lakers in Game 4?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIf they can, then we’ll probably start paying attention to those guys.

The road to the title continues in the NBA with Game 4 of the 2009 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic set to be played this Thursday in Orlando, Florida.

Last Tuesday night, the Orlando Magic made history by taking their very first win in the NBA Finals, beating the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 3, 108-104. That’s right, this franchise finally won one.

You see, it wasn’t so long ago when a Magic team led by a young Shaquille O’Neal was swept by Hakeem Olajuwon’s Rockets. This franchise finally winning a game in the NBA Finals last Tuesday night was vindication, to say the least.

Dwight HowardOf course, despite making history, the Los Angeles Lakers are still in front in this series, 2-1. The Orlando Magic still have a lot of work to do too, they still need to beat this Lakers team three more times to win the title, not to mention the fact that they need to win this Thursday and tie the series to give themselves a shot in this best of seven affair.

The problem is, the Lakers will come out more focused, even more determined, and a little agitated.

You see, the way the Lakers finished Game 3 should be more than enough reason for these guys to feel apprehensive. The Lakers team that finished that game wasn’t the same team that won the first two games of this series. In Game 3, the Lakers gave it away to the Magic, with Kobe Bryant missing key free throws and committing huge turnovers down the stretch that paved the way for Orlando to win it.

Maybe the Lakers took Game 3 off since…

Rubens Barrichello, pissed off at Brawn GP teammate Jenson Button (Probably because he’s losing a lot…)

By: Syndicate

Ladies and gentlemen, dissension within Brawn GP is about to begin.

Yup, it turns out that success can really get into people’s heads, in this case, Brawn GP. In case you have not been watching the 2009 F1 season, Brawn GP is quickly becoming a force to be reckon with, taking the spotlight away from Ferrari, McLaren and basically everybody else.

That’s all thanks to Jenson Button. Of course, their new diffuser technology has a lot to do with it as well… Button, thanks to Brawn’s diffuser, has won six of the season’s first seven races. The only race he didn’t win was in China, where he finished third fastest.

Rubens BarrichelloWith the way Brawn GP has been dominating the season, they almost have the constructors’ title in the bag. Brawn GP leads the race for the constructors’ title with 96 championship points. Their closest competitor is Red Bull, with 56.5 points.

With the dominant year Brawn GP has been having, you would think that everything’s fine and dandy within their camp right? Wrong. You see, not everybody’s happy with the way this season has been going so far. And while Jenson Button has been hogging all the spotlight, Rubens Barrichello has been hating every minute of it.

You read it, Rubens Barrichello ain’t happy…

Can the Lakers win the 2009 NBA Finals in Orlando?

By: J.J. Jack

Disneyland.

That’s where the 2009 NBA Finals will be when this best of seven series for the title resumes for Game 3 in Orlando, Florida. The Lakers are halfway from winning their 15th world title, and with the next three games scheduled at the Amway Arena, these Lakers could be celebrating on the Magic’s floor before this week is over.

Yep, since the Los Angeles Lakers are only a couple of wins away from their 15th title in franchise history, they definitely have what it takes to end the series in Orlando. Judging by the way they won the first two games of the championship series, I don’t see any reason to think otherwise.

Los Angeles LakersYou see, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic by simply staying fundamentally sound. ”Showtime” was clearly not present in each of the Lakers’ two wins of the NBA Finals. The Lakers didn’t beat themselves, they didn’t blow opportunities and they didn’t make dumb mistakes.

Orlando did.

The Lakers, to put it simply, didn’t win the first two games. It just so happened that the Magic lost both of ‘em. Take Game 2 for example. Orlando had that one won. They had a four-point lead in the final minutes of Game 2…

Will Brett Favre play with the Minnesota Vikings or not?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgApparently, they are now imposing some sort of a deadline for exactly that.

With still more than a few months left before the brand new 2009 NFL football season kicks off, the Minnesota Vikings want to determine whether they’ll be having the 39-year-old Brett Favre for this campaign or not.

You read it, the Minnesota Vikings are tired of waiting and so are we. (Unless you’re a Bears fan and could care less what Favre or the Vikings do with their time…) It turns out that Vikings head coach Brad Childress has imposed a deadline this week for Brett Favre to decide whether he’ll be the team’s quarterback or not.

Brett FavreYou read it, Brad Childress is actually imposing some sort of a deadline on Brett Favre. The Vikings want Favre so bad that they want to sign him now before he decides to retire again (prematurely…) and return with some other team next season.

The problem is, Favre is reluctant to commit playing a 19th NFL season without first being more confident that the arthroscopic surgery done on his throwing shoulder recently has succeeded in eliminating all that shit related to the torn biceps tendon.

Favre wants to make sure that his shoulder is healthy before jumping into…

Another WWE Superstar gets into the MMA Bandwagon. This time, it’s John ”Bradshaw” Layfield…

By: Syndicate

It seems that’s the trend these days.

After Ken Shamrock did the UFC to WWE then back to UFC exodus years ago, the gap between fake wrestling and reality combat got a little closer. And now that former WWE stars like Bobby Lashley and current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar are making a name for themselves in the world of mixed martial arts, it was only a matter of time before another WWE superstar gets into MMA.

The latest one to jump into the bandwagon is now former WWE star John ”Bradshaw” Layfield. Known to wrestling fans as ”JBL”, Layfield has now entered into the sport of mixed martial arts hoping to take advantage of the growing fan base of the sport.

John Bradshaw LayfieldHowever, unlike Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley, John ”Bradshaw” Layfield won’t be fighting in some ring or inside the Octagon for the UFC. What he plans to do is an entirely different approach from the two former WWE stars. He plans to put up his own MMA promotion.

You read it, Layfield is going to help the Kentucky based promotion, Vyper Fight League try to make a splash into the world of mixed martial arts. He’ll get help from Bruce Pritchard and Danny Davis, both also coming from the pro wrestling world.

Layfield thinks mixed martial arts is in a stage where pro wrestling was 20 years…

Former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski should just retire

By: J.J. Jack

Why? Well, after getting knocked out TWICE, there shouldn’t be any reason for the guy to come back for more.

You read it, Andrei ”The Pit Bull” Arlovski just got knocked out for the second straight time. After Fedor Emelianenko knocked him out hard back in Anaheim, California, nobody thought Arlovski would be able to come back and fight again. Well, he did last Saturday, only to get his ass knocked out again.

In what has been one of the fastest knockouts in MMA history, virtual unknown Brett Rogers shocked the world when he came up with a knockout victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski after only 22 seconds into the fight.

Andrei ArlovskiYou read it, Brett Rogers needed just 22 seconds to KO the Pit Bull, blasting the Belarusian with a vicious left hook, sending the former UFC star staggering back into the cage. Rogers finished Arlovski off with a flurry of punches, giving what was once a virtual unknown a win that should catapult him to superstardom.

Rogers can now get a shot at Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem on an August 15 card.

”I’m ready for whatever, man,” Rogers said after improving to 10-0 with his ninth knockout. ”I was planning on picking that (heavyweight title) up today, but it was kind of pushed back. I hope…”

Lakers take 2-0 lead over Magic in the 2009 NBA Finals

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhat, you thought the Magic will come out in Game 2 and tie it?

We’ll pretend that the 2009 NBA Finals ain’t over yet. Well, technically, it isn’t. But judging by the way Kobe Bryant and the Lakers kicked off this year’s championship series, it already is.

The Los Angeles Lakers made it clear how bad they want to win their fourth championship of the century. With Kobe Bryant scoring 40 points to lead the Lakers to a 100-75 destruction of Orlando in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, it is evident that the Lakers wanted to put the Magic out early.

In Game 2, the Orlando Magic put up a better effort. Unlike the first game, this one was tightly contested, needing overtime to determine a winner. Unfortunately for Orlando, the MAGICAL shots that went in for them against Philly, Boston and Cleveland just Courtney Leewon’t work against L.A., and in a game that initially looked like going in Orlando’s way, the Lakers found a way to win.

Oh yes, it did look like the Magic were going to take this series back to Florida with it tied 1-1. They even had a four-point lead at crunch time while the crowd at the Staples Center watched, nervously.

Perhaps the most frightening moment of Game 2 (that is if you’re a Lakers fan…) was when Magic rookie Courtney Lee had a chance to win the game for his team in the dying seconds of regulation.

With about .6 seconds remaining and the game tied, Courtney Lee was able to get…

Can the Detroit Red Wings win the 2009 NHL Stanley Cup and finally get rid of the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6?

By: Syndicate

You bet because there’s no way in hell why this series is going to a seventh game.

It’s no surprise that the Detroit Red Wings are in full control of the 2009 NHL Stanley Cup Finals. After simply destroying the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5, there’s no way for you to think that Detroit doesn’t have the Cup in the bag.

It was an annihilation as the Detroit Red Wings got one step closer from being crowned as the 2009 Stanley Cup champions after humiliating the Penguins, 5-0 last Saturday. The win extended Detroit’s series lead to 3-2, putting them only a win away from their 12th Stanley Cup, their fifth one in 12 seasons.

Chris OsgoodSure, every hockey fan who’ll be watching Game 6 live this Tuesday should be behind the Pittsburgh Penguins since the game will be played on their home ice but the fact of the matter is, the Red Wings know letting Pittsburgh extend this series to a Game 7 will be detrimental to their run for the title and they can’t give these Penguins any momentum whatsoever.

Sure, a Game 7 back in Detroit will be fantastic for Red Wings fans but if you’re Detroit, why would you risk extending it to another game when you can end it in Pittsburgh on Tuesday?

”The other game is three days away so I don’t know if [the shutout] has much…”
